Photo Of The Month - July 2014 Entries

Post by Geo Ghost »

The theme for this month is Strangeness.
"So instead of pictures showing normal situations, pictures where something is off in a strange way from that normal situation."
Set by the winner of last month, Transportman.

Encase you're new, or need a refresh...
Rules can be found Here.
Please read and familiarise yourselves with them if you haven't before.
Previous winners can also be found on that page.

How to enter:
Easy - simply upload your image to this topic to enter or link it from a trusted site such as flickr, photobucket, DeviantArt, your personal website etc.
Uploading is preferred as it keeps things together. If you're linking from a URL, having a small 'preview' image and a link to a high-res image would be helpful.
If uploading direct to the wiki:
I like to keep entries in a certain named format for organisation reasons as well as keeping record of them in the entries topic and here. If you prefer to upload to the wiki, please keep it in the same naming format as other entries and inform me they are already on the wiki. Name format is - month|year|POTM_user name.
For example: 0714POTM_DaveW.jpg / 0714POTM_orudge.jpg / 0714POTM_GeoGhost.jpg / 0714POTM_Ameecher.jpg
You get the idea ;)

If you upload to the wiki with a different format, I will have to re-upload the image again with the right name. Sorry to be picky, but I want to keep all the entries organised and in the same manner.

At the end of the month, this topic will close and a voting topic will be started with all the entries in for people to choose their top one.
All entries will be uploaded to the tt-forums wiki and stored there for voting and also for archive.
Entries close on the last day of the month, voting will be available till the 7th of each month (approximately).
The winner will need to contact me about what they want the next theme to be and then that will be posted in the entry topic for the next month. Then we repeat from there. Simple. :D

If you wish to change your entry, you may so long as the entries are still open. Simply upload a new one to the topic and remove your old one.
Otherwise, it may get confusing as to which one you are entering. If there are two entries submitted and you have not informed me which one you wish to be used, I will use the first one posted.

Best of luck everyone!

Hmm, those last two pictures reminded me of this one I took a while back, it's almost a perfect combination of the two. :D

This long-abandoned bus deep in the woods hasn't seen a passenger in decades, but it's managed to find a new life as part of a dirt bike trail. It's a fun ride; it's not every day you get to drive one vehicle through another!

Geo, ahem... the title of this thread... Voting already?

EDIT: My entry. A brand new car ferry as you can usually see it:

... and the slightly unusual view of the same ferry. I've had the opportunity to see her a few weeks before, still in the shipyard:

Remembered to actually submit an entry this month.

A tram passing through Place Garibaldi, Nice. Why's it strange? There's no wires, the trams in Nice, when passing through large open spaces, switch to battery power to avoid unsightly overhead wires ruining the vista.

Not the best picture but at least I entered for once :P

Very late entry...

This is Salty, a Mercedes minibus owned by the Reykjavik Excursions company.

Most of the RE vehicles are brand new, top of the range Volvo three-axle 80-seater coaches.

But they're banned from the Icelandic highlands where the roads aren't metalled with tarmac. The coaches are too long for the winding routes.

This bus therefore runs a twice-weekly excursion of the Reykjanes Peninsula. Unlike the twice or more daily trips to the Golden Circle and the Northern Lights, this tour isn't well publicised and thus the bus was only half full. There was a single lady and three other couples with us.

It was probably the highlight of my holiday, the driver-guide was absolutely fantastic and we took in some of the lesser known areas on the peninsula, including a stunning cafe at Grindavik port which was being battered by a 90mph gale.

So I posit this. Strange because for a company that shares a duopoly in the country (with Iceland Excursions) and makes a lot of money by packing tourists onto shiny new buses and taking them to well trodden paths, this tour, on a rickety old Mercedes through fish-smoking farms and working ports, was far more intimate and thus far more special.

Hey guys, I've just returned from my holidays and I see we still don't have a voting thread. Would anyone mind me making one tomorrow morning like last month? Or do we extend this until September?

No but we've kind of agreed that I'd step in whenever he's missing or he's busy or whatever else. Will do it.

Dude, you only messaged me this morning. I've been away this weekend for my birthday and travelling all day today. You can't expect a PM reply instantly.
I was going to say about waiting out this month entirely since it's almost halfway through and put voting at the end of the month then starting fresh in September with something new.

I apologise I haven't kept this up to date. I have been very busy with work, life, trips, and all sorts. But no one has really contacted me to ask or remind me, or offer to take over for the month.
Then when you did mate, you didn't even have the patience to wait for a reply :( Not really happy with that man. I appreciate people offering to help, but not so much taking over without talking to me. Don't find that fair =/

Geo I sincerely apologize, I've seen you've red my PM and since I didn't receive a reply from you (I confess, I waited too briefly, only a few hours) I assumed you were away somewhere or busy as usual. And since I've promised I'd help and step in if you don't have the time...

Regardless of all my excuses, entirely my bad and fault. It won't happen again, I'm sincerely sorry.

That's ok mate.
Not having a go or anything. Was just a bit peeved about the lack of patience haha.
I do appriciate the help, please don't misunderstand. Just give me a bit more time to reply :) Or ask me sooner.

We'll leave the voting running for now and see how it goes. Start the next competition in September which will be easier. Get it back on track!

Sorry again.
Should we change the poll duration till the end of August then? Can you do it as a mod or must I do it as the thread "author"?
