One for today...
Re: [OTTD] 2cc TrainsInNML
found some site with south african steam engines, with pics, perhaps interesting for the african representation

Re: [OTTD] 2cc TrainsInNML
Unfortunately, the ONLY African country well represented on wikipedia is South Africa, I already have too many SAR and similar South African locomotives on the roster...
In any case, I wish to thank you for your effort. I really appreciate it.
EDIT: ... and after this one it's time to watch some football...

Re: [OTTD] 2cc TrainsInNML
I think they should add at&sf 3000 and a u.p. challenger for a cheeper alternative to the big boy for people who cant afford a bigbig boy in the game.

Re: [OTTD] 2cc TrainsInNML
I'll consider your suggestions but I have a question: what makes you think these would be much "cheaper" than the Big Boy?
Consider just a few stats:
AT&SF 3000 - year: 1911, wheels 4-10-10-4, 104 km/h, 496 kN (lower power, speed and TE but VERY early year-wise)
Challenger - year: 1936, wheels 4-6-6-4, 110 km/h, 433 kN (stats lower than the Big Boy but comes out earlier)
Big Boy - year: 1941, wheels 4-8-8-4, 130 km/h, 602 kN (stats more or less in line with the construction period)
... others from those periods had much much lower (worse) stats...

Re: [OTTD] 2cc TrainsInNML
the challenger was quite famous, I'd love to see it in the set anyway
as you speak of "alternative" for the bigboy: alternative can't mean "equal stats but lower price", as there is no such engine. Alternative can therefore only mean "something proportionally much cheaper with unproportionally lower stats" ...

Re: [OTTD] 2cc TrainsInNML
The thing about costs in the 2ccSet, as I've been explaining to Transportman too, is that if I recall what DJ has done in the previous versions is an automatic formula that calculates costs (purchase and running) based on vehicle's stats. More power means more costs, more TE means more costs, more speed means more costs, more "xyz" means more costs.
Therefore, these locomotives that you've suggested would have more or less similar (but definitely not equal) costs. This doesn't mean I won't make them!
I'll see to put at least some in line here.

Re: [OTTD] 2cc TrainsInNML
Hi people. recently i've been viewing TT forums to see what changed since my last visit and found this thread. it's so nice that my favourite train set is alive. keep up the amazing work you put in this. if you will need some new locos/vehicles from USSR/russia just let me know.

Re: [OTTD] 2cc TrainsInNML
Of course we need those too. Please check what's already in and what I'm currently making and see if you have some interesting suggestion. Also, please keep in mind that a suggestion 'per se' is next to nothing without pictures and stats...xenon wrote:if you will need some new locos/vehicles from USSR/russia just let me know.

Re: [OTTD] 2cc TrainsInNML
Finnish rolling stock in this set should be updated to Finnish Train Set sprites and specs since the current ones are badly outdated.

Re: [OTTD] 2cc TrainsInNML
I'm sorry, I don't understand you well: do you want to update 2cc set vehicles into the Finnish set or Finnish set vehicles into the 2cc set?

Re: [OTTD] 2cc TrainsInNML
License wise there should be no problem, as the Finnish Set also has the GPL-license. But a quick look indicates that the set uses RL colors, where this set uses 2cc. So someone should recolor them to fit into this set.

How many and which ones do you suggest to "renew"?alluke wrote:FTS vehicles into 2cc, of course, since they're way newer.
BTW, the Finnish Vectron is already included in those "new" ones I'm adding.

EDIT: I have little time yet again so this is the only one I've managed...

Nice work Voyager. But with all kinds of vehicles added, we could use that regional parameter feature more and more.
How much work would such a regional parameter feature be and is it possible to give it some kind of priority?

Re: [OTTD] 2cc TrainsInNML
Regional parameter would be relatively easy and not that much work, as it is an if/else statement for every vehicle that can be reused for multiple vehicles. I just need a list of regions (and which specific countries are part of that region) to be able to implement it.Purno wrote:Nice work Voyager. Quickly looking at the list of vehicles, I think the following regions will result in a playable set of vehicles for each region:
- Western Europe (Germany, Austria and Italy and all European countries west of that)
- America (both North and South)
- Other (Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia
Speaking of parameters, I have been thinking about adding a parameter to set the vehicle sorting in the purchase menu. Currently vehicles are sorted on class (Railbus-Engine-MU) and then on traction (Steam-Diesel-Electric). Would people like a parameter to turn that around and first sort on traction and then on class?

Re: [OTTD] 2cc TrainsInNML
Can players select multiple regions or do they have to choose one? (Also need to decide how to do this with the interface. Not allowing peope to select multiple regions may make the GUI a lot easier to grasp.)Transportman wrote:Regional parameter would be relatively easy and not that much work, as it is an if/else statement for every vehicle that can be reused for multiple vehicles. I rather not make a "Other" region combining several different regions together. Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia should be different regions IMO. Even if that results it very tiny selections of engines. We may need to increase a vehicle's availability or fill in some missing gaps to make every region playable, but IMO that's the best way to go. In an earlier concept (years ago) we had much smaller regions, such as Northern Europe (Scandinavia), and Southern Europe (Spain, Italy, etc).
Possibly, but it'll allow less diversity. A small selection of trains will always be the same selection. With regional parameters it'll possible to play with a smaller selection of European trains, or a smaller selection of American trains. But it is a possibility. If any of our readers has some opinions/comments/suggestions, pleaseAnother solution would be something like a base group of vehicles and then with parameters allow adding more. So instead of the currently included ~150 engines (30 steam, 60 diesel and 60 electric) have only ~25 of them (5 steam, 10 diesel and 10 electric) as base and then through parameters the rest of the vehicles (either with a regional parameter or also in batches of a comparable number of vehicles). While that would be slightly more work as we need to decide on which vehicle should be in which group, I think this gives a better experience for players that want a smaller purchase list while still have a reasonable set to play with.

Considering the very long list of vehicles is a often-heard complaint, and we're discussing this regional parameter for years, I kinda want to make this high-priority

I guess it doesn't hurt to give them the option, but personally I prefer the current system. Doesn't OpenTTD have options to order the list based on traction?Speaking of parameters, I have been thinking about adding a parameter to set the vehicle sorting in the purchase menu. I would allow selecting multiple regions with simple boolean parameters. It will result in more options, but allows people to play with as many regions they want.Purno wrote:Can players select multiple regions or do they have to choose one? The "Other" region was more to get a decent amount of trains for each group, but it is a bit of a "hack", so I agree that there are nicer solutions.I rather not make a "Other" region combining several different regions together. I think more than two regions for Europe is overkill. I'm not exactly sure how it should be divided, it can be a division N-S or E-W.In an earlier concept (years ago) we had much smaller regions, such as Northern Europe (Scandinavia), and Southern Europe (Spain, Italy, etc).
It is quite easy to do between the remaining items, so no problem making it a priority. MUs and wagons are still to be done, but there are some graphical difficulties with those (different templates or different number of sprites compared to other vehicles).Considering the very long list of vehicles is a often-heard complaint, and we're discussing this regional parameter for years, I kinda want to make this high-priority

Just to be sure I understand, what you're suggesting is parameters like this:Transportman wrote:I would allow selecting multiple regions with simple boolean parameters. It will result in more options, but allows people to play with as many regions they want.
Europe - yes/no
America - yes/no
Asia - yes/no
etc...
Right?
E-W is probably the most logical division. But perhaps we should do a quick inventarisation of how many vehicles we have in each region. And it'd be nice to have some room for expanion as well. After all, we kinda like expanding, right?I think more than two regions for Europe is overkill. I'm not exactly sure how it should be divided, it can be a division N-S or E-W.

Cool. Just need to discuss which regions we do then. I assume VoyagerOne has some ideas on this as wellIt is quite easy to do between the remaining items, so no problem making it a priority. MUs and wagons are still to be done, but there are some graphical difficulties with those (different templates or different number of sprites compared to other vehicles).

Makes kinda sense. Traction type isn't really an interesting stat, is it? I mean, if I'm looking for a nice engine to pull my train, I want to compare horsepower, speed, costs, etc., but I don't really care if it's running on steam or diesel.OpenTTD does not have such an option, or at least, I could not find it.

(well, electric traction might be nice to filter out if you're running on unelectrified tracks, but using an unelectrified depot can do that too).
