Photo Of The Month - October 2013 Entries

Post by Geo Ghost »

The theme for this month is Lighted Signals
Set by last months winner, Voyager One.
"Anything with lighted signals: traffic lights, special lighting signals on vehicles, lighthouses, police/ambulance/fire lights, airport runway lights and similar stuff. Night shots, daily shots... all is appropriate."

Encase you're new, or need a refresh...
Rules can be found Here.
Please read and familiarise yourselves with them if you haven't before.
Previous winners can also be found on that page.

How to enter:
Easy - simply upload your image to this topic to enter or link it from a trusted site such as flickr, photobucket, DeviantArt, your personal website etc.
Uploading is preferred as it keeps things together. If you're linking from a URL, having a small 'preview' image and a link to a high-res image would be helpful.
If uploading direct to the wiki:
I like to keep entries in a certain named format for organisation reasons as well as keeping record of them in the entries topic and here. If you prefer to upload to the wiki, please keep it in the same naming format as other entries and inform me they are already on the wiki. Name format is - month|year|POTM_user name.
For example: 1013POTM_DaveW.jpg / 1013POTM_orudge.jpg / 1013POTM_GeoGhost.jpg / 1013POTM_Ameecher.jpg
You get the idea ;)

If you upload to the wiki with a different format, I will have to re-upload the image again with the right name. Sorry to be picky, but I want to keep all the entries organised and in the same manner.

At the end of the month, this topic will close and a voting topic will be started with all the entries in for people to choose their top one.
All entries will be uploaded to the tt-forums wiki and stored there for voting and also for archive.
Entries close on the last day of the month, voting will be available till the 7th of each month (approximately).
The winner will need to contact me about what they want the next theme to be and then that will be posted in the entry topic for the next month. Then we repeat from there. Simple. :D

If you wish to change your entry, you may so long as the entries are still open. Simply upload a new one to the topic and remove your old one.
Otherwise, it may get confusing as to which one you are entering. If there are two entries submitted and you have not informed me which one you wish to be used, I will use the first one posted.

Best of luck everyone!

OK, I'll open the games...

This is an old lighthouse located in the small town of Kraljevica. It was built by the Austro-Hungarian Empire when the Emperor Francis II ordered numerous lighthouses to be built all across the shore. Starting in 1818, altogether 48 were built, this one being built in 1872, just a few years before the whole "Lighthouse command" was transferred in the vicinity... (Yes, the Austro-Hungarian Empire had a special military command just for lighthouses  )

All these lighthouses were populated at those times. A crew was always present and being a lighthouse keeper was one of the most honorable and dignified jobs someone could have. They were treated with the same respect as ship captains or even admirals.

Today, the lighthouse is automated but the crew still remains - a lighthouse keeper and his family live in the house below the 15-meter tower. This is a tradition that is still respected all over my country, even on remote islands like Palagruža, with no inhabitants except those in the lighthouse.

More or less... the "weirder" the better as far as I'm concerned... but essentially it will depend on the audience. :D

Best I've got so I'll get it in early.

A very foggy scene on the Ringway in Preston over the winter of 2007-08.

Soo, lights. Lights everywhere. Hope you like it.
Photo taken back in 2008 during a busfan-only ride, with traffic flowing though other lanes while the bus was waiting for us to set up tripods and take photos. Most notably, the world famous Wawel Castle can be seen in the background. The bus was a unique one (the one and only of its kind, built by a Polish now defunct manufacturer Jelcz atop of Mercedes O405GN2 undercarriage - hence the Mercedes logo on its front), now long decommissioned.

Can't enter a photo you've won with before can you? Ameecher has the perfect pic for this (see the Morning, Dusk and Nighttime round that he won!)

That is correct.
Photos that haven't won any competitions can be re-entered after a couple of months :)

Hadn't thought of that one. Got a couple of ideas though.

Struggling to decide between two at the moment.

Either a unique and unusual photo that will suit well... or something simple that is vivid and colourful. Arg, decisions!

Nice topic.

Here is my entry. A shot I took a while back. I captured the signal just in the moment when it was switching from green to red/yellow, so both were lit.

Going for the slightly unique and different one :P

CD/RA indicator. Photo on a long enough exposure to show both signals.
