When will my city ''evolve''?

Post by RacoonV »

Hello,

I registered an account on this forum, because this is an awesome game. Me and a couple of friends recently started playing and are now playing it on a daily basis. We got the hang of the game, but we don't understand one aspect of the game yet.

We have a city with more than 120.000 people. We have some nice buildings in our city, but for some reason our city is not going to the ''next level''. When we were browsing the OpenTTD website we found a screenshot on the screenshot page that displayed skyscrapers and many other ''big'' buildings. Here is the screenshot: http://www.openttd.org/en/screenshot/1. ... ongvorarat

When do our ''medium'' flats and offices evolve to these type of buildings? Or is there anything specific that we need to do? We paid new buildings for a specific city, did advertisement campaigns and even tried to start a city on an island to get it to start growing in the air. But nothing seems to work.

How do we get a city like the screenshot above?

Thanks!

That screenshot uses the TTRS (Total Town Replacement Set) NewGRF. You should be able to find it on the content browser in game. As far as I know, the standard graphics doesn't have many big sky scrapers.

It also depends on the game year. You will get different buildings as the years progress, both using the default buildings and with newgrfs like TTRS.

Fyi you can increase the speed of city growth in the advanced options menu

Off topic: How do you get overhead/elevated rail?

The "overhead/elevated" railway you see is just simple really long bridges. Note how they only go straight in the screenshot. Fairly easy to do, just remember that atm bridges can only go over water, land, rails and roads (though this might change in the future).
