CS Bus set (buses and coaches from czech and slovak area)

Post by Greyfur »

Hello everyone.

I think the time has come to reveal what has been cooking secretly on my stove.

Czechoslovakia was always known for it's transport vehicle industry, be it the Tatra trucks, CKD Tatra trams, Skoda locomotives and trolleybuses, or Karosa buses.

Some 14 years ago I worked on graphical sets within the Tycoonez.com:munity, drawing trams for the CSTramSet and dreaming of a separate bus set, which I didn't have a coder for. I then worked with George to have my bus drawings coded and incorporated in his Long Vehicles set from the eastern Europe. But I always dreamed about a big and very detailed bus set from the area where I live.

Some time ago, when I was again brought to OpenTTD by my friends and after I checked there was no czecho-slovak bus set, which I would consider good enough, I decided to again start working on tycoon graphics. And NML was easy enough, so it made it possible for me to not rely on someone else with coding. So now I am at it.

I was inspired by the marvelous Ikarus set, which is very well done and I wanted my set to be compatible with it, so I used their scale.

CSBusSet is a set which has more than 170 types and subtypes of buses and coaches planned. It contains all the major czechoslovak, czech and slovak manufacturers like Skoda, Praga, Tatra, Karosa/Irisbus/Iveco, Sor, and also most of the smaller and little ones like Walter, Fross-Bussing, Oasa, Prima TL, Zliner, Granus, Novoplan/Preos/Troliga Bus, SlovBus, Tedom, Kars and others. It will also contain some foreign buses that were in service in this region like Fiat, Ikarus, Robur, Chavdar, TAM Bus, Mercedes, Bussing etc.

I currently have the following 60 buses and coaches in a working testing set:
Image

The following features are already included in what I have coded so far:
- Each bus has at least one realistic livery and one company color livery. I use both company colors, split to one being used as city buses and the other for regional coaches, long distance coaches often having both CC1 and CC2 versions. There are bus types that have more than 20 liveries available to spice up the game and allow you the diversity to have the bus service more realistic.
- You always buy the bus in a "production" livery. On some buses they epend on year of build and on some, when there were multiple color varieties produced in one year, you have a chance to get buses from multiple, so when buying 5 Karosa LC735.00 buses it can happen 3 will have yellow stripes, one will have red ones and one will be completely white.
- some buses had bodies changed during the production. If it was significant, you will get the bus with the body based on when you will buy it.
- Buses that have known prototypes or some special pieces of significance, will have them as easter eggs - there will be a chance to get them when you buy that bus in that year (is not yet fully implemented).
- Easy icons in the buying menu showing the purpose of the bus and the fuel type

What I am currently working on:
- debugging
- fixing alignment issues of buses on the road
- setting the loading speed of each type based on the amount and width of entrances, and the height of the floor
- Special reality based bus acquiring - After WWII there were captured buses, or buses that were simply found where the nacists left them. If the government wasn§t able to find the owner, they were giving out these to the Czechoslovak railways for their lines. There will be a randomized purchase option, that will offer german and austrian buses with limited lifetime and reliability for a very low price. You will be able to get buses that were never sold before or after.
- In 1948 the socialists got into the government and started collectivisation - they were taking private property of various businesses and put them under the direction of the country. Private bus companies had to give their buses to the government and it again gave them to the czechoslovak railways. These were often old buses from twenties and thirties, maybe some newer. Again there will be a possibility to gain buses that were not sold before.

What is planned:
- system of eras, which will split the buses according some technical complexity, generations into some logical groups, it will be used for passenger satisfaction, which will influece cargo value dropping
- Influence the cargo value drop rate by eras and the comfort of seats, onboard equipment (like bar, television, toilet..), AC
- ballancing of the vehicles (price / reliability / running costs)
- dynamic fuel type based running costs (like raise costs during WWII for petrol and diesel, while keep low running costs for wood generator gas powered vehicles). Fuel types planned are Petrol, Diesel, Holzgas/Generator gas, Natural gas and Electric. I plan to have the possibility adding a generator to petrol powered buses in thirties and WWII.

I may be missing something, if I'll remember, I will add it here.

Here a couple pictures from testing:

Hey there,
looks like we had the same idea. It is time-consuming, isn't it?
I appreciate that you made this it looks crazy good. You can check on my set if you want, they're in the signature. I cut only to Slovak buses because I minded that there are not Slovak liveries that often to be used in-game. Well, but we plan to add trolleybuses, trams and trains and more and more... but man, the time needed for that.

Crazy how good this looks.

Happy you make this too. :)

It takes an awful amount of time of course. I have started 2017, but then my daughter was born in december 2018 and I have not touch it much last year and most of this year. I returned to working on it this autumn.

And... talking about trolleybuses. I have pretty much all Skoda trolleys up to 21Tr, 15Tr and Sanos are not yet finished. I have Citelis, Sor NB12 and NS12 and Solaris drawn as buses, so modifying them into trolleys would be easy. From Tatras I got T86 and T400 and I also have Vetra drawn. I am missing MAN-Siemens and Oerlikon from Bratislava and Zlin and I have not drawn that weird Fiat from Most. Nor did I draw the Praga trolleybus.

Here a small graphic sample from my drawer. None of them is coded yet and there are much more liveries available, as I had to cut on them due to the picture size. I planned to also include export liveries (german, russian, etc).

The nice sample you have there. You do more and more, we are only after Slovak liveries, so it is a little bit easier. I more for train expansions but I need some abuses too.

I haven't coded any trolleybus apart from SOR TNB 12 for the test drive. And I've drawn Škoda 14Tr of Banska Bystrica for the template. I and my friend decided we are going to do a loading state and a broken state. It looks a bit different from yours. :) Happy to hear more from you.

This set looks great!

To help reduce the clutter on the buy menu, have you considered placing the city/regional/tourists or the trailers into the refit menu?

Hi Kamnet,

it usually won't be such a clutter unless you set the types to never stop being produced, which I use for testing. I cannot set those as refits as I use refits for altering liveries. Some buses have two, some have 50 liveries present... I was not yet able to get a multi-stages menu work in NML.

50 liveries? Wow, your dedication is epic! :)

I'm excited to see the buses with trailers. For the last several months I've been researching and compiling stats for trolleybuses. I haven't gotten to CS, but researching others it was interesting to see the various buses and trolleybuses that relied on trailers to increase capacity.

I was missing the trailers for a while. They first appeared during WWII around here and were crucial for bus transportation in this region up to late seventies, when Ikarus 280 articulated buses started to be delivered.

Well, that is a good question. I think it is a realistic expectation that a "demo" version will be ready in January, featuring these 60 bus types and subtypes.
I still have to adjust the code and do some balancing.

I have 33 more bus types and subtypes almost coded, missing mostly the language pack entries. Then of course testing, balancing and corrections.

I would like to have my first trolley coded sometimes over Christmas.

But, I admit, this all is also dependent from my work and my family.

What do u mean by this? It should be possible to ad variable current_year or build_year which I use for Karosa buses because 731 version has in subtype 732 and 732 CNG versions, all with a variety of options.

I mean that you click a refit and there is a list of refits and you use it for groups of other refits. Like... You buy an LC735, you click refit, open the option SAD Nitra and there would be three different liveries to choose from. I don't have the issue with the first level menu, but when I add the second, it doesn't behave as a second level menu and just gives me a livery.

In my set I have the Robur Garant (predecessor) and the 2002 (street version is the 3000), which follows the 2500/1800 model, so the 2500 sits perfectly between those two :)
Was the 3000 model (produced from the 70s) in service in CS, too? :?:

Anyway it's nice to see you're planning to take an eye on this small manufacturer, too :))

I don't think that is possible. Would be helpful.
Submenus can be for each cargo type I belive, there is one reserved for liveries and regearing vehicles, but "subtype of a subtype" menu isn't a thing I believe.

The 3000 was here in the form of trucks. I do not know about any buses though.

Showcase of subtypes escription in vehicle details when buying C734 buses in 1987, together with various liveries from production.

In 1987 Karosa was producing subtypes C734.20, C734.21, C734.22, C734.23 and C734.24. Due to multiple reasons, the buses that were supposed only to be white with blue stripes or whole white, were produced in blue, yellow and red stripes.

Don't mind those out of range power values
