Old scenarios problem
I have a minor problem with older scenarios.
When I add trains it says they require setup - dynamic engines = true
I assume it's some old, unused setting. Is it possible to solve this problem elegantly, for example via the console, without having to change the graphics again?

Re: Old scenarios problem
Open console ...."set vehicle.dynamic_engines = on" should do the trick.

Re: Old scenarios problem
Thanks
And that's what I was looking for before I asked, shouldn't it be in the FAQ?

Re: Old scenarios problem
It probably should be. Feel free to edit the Wiki to make this update.

Re: Old scenarios problem
How exactly should I write it to the console? Somehow it doesn't work for me.
It wrote something to me, but I don't know what it wants from me, the error was that I tried it with the quotation marks as well.

Thanks
You are somewhat confused that the command is not confirmed in any way, so the only proof of functionality is the working of the graphics.

Re: Old scenarios problem
Sometimes a message appears that some graphics are missing resources (for example, if I put two sets of planes into a scenario where there was nothing before) I guess it has to do with some old limits and there is nothing that can be done about it. For example, adding WAS to AV8, or Russian Planeset.
Re: Old scenarios problem
Turning on dynamic engines should fix it.
FYI it's not an "unused setting", but it's not in the GUI because it's on by default and there's no reason to ever turn it off. With it turned off, only the 256 original TTD vehicle IDs are available, and NewGRF sets will all try to overwrite each other in that limited space.

Re: Old scenarios problem
Thank you, that explains another problem that happened to me, without any warning. So sometimes it's probably worth turning it on just to be sure, even if I'm not currently adding problematic trains. Well, I'll see how the two games where I got my vehicle sets "mixed up" will work
At worst, I delete the game and start again, better and more carefully. I'm just curious as to what reason scenarios authors can turn it off. The only reason I can think of is that they want it to work in TTD as well....

Re: Old scenarios problem
Those scenarios probably predate its existence.

Re: Old scenarios problem
Possible. There are also very early versions of Firs, 0.75, 1.3... But somewhere there are relatively new graphics, maybe an update, but without turning on the given setting. When the authors are able to place the graphics in the wrong order, or put mutually incompatible ones, it is clear that they also neglect this.

Re: Old scenarios problem
Where the graphics have mixed, will it help to sell all vehicles, use the settings and have the graphics load again, or is it better to start straight again?
Re: Old scenarios problem
changing GRFs can have very weird and sometimes not immediately obvious side effects.
so yes, it's generally advised to sell all vehicles when vehicle GRFs are changed. but it's not usually required to start from scratch. however, things like industry GRFs can have much deeper impact.

Re: Old scenarios problem
Definitely, although nothing has ever happened to me when replacing the vanilla industry with another one that was not solved by demolishing all the vanilla factories. But, for example, replacing the old version of FIRS with a new one - I definitely do not recommend it. However, this will only be a change of vehicles. Actually, it won't even be a change of graphics, I'll just set the given settings and reload the graphics that I added there, including the industry. I will only confirm the changes in the graphics settings, even if I don't change anything there.

Re: Old scenarios problem
How is it possible that I start a game script and it starts with my graphics settings for new games? Specifically, for example, Rusty Paradise, downloadable from Bananas. And according to what happened, they are also among the very old ones.
Re: Old scenarios problem
very old games did not save which newgrfs were activated, so it loads the current settings instead. (you can't assume that no NewGRFs were active)
