Hi. Please don't flame me, I'm a new user and I'm sure this is a common problem, but I have been through a lot of FAQs and Bart Brinkman's installation guide (at http://www.tt-extreme.org/index.php?opt ... &Itemid=26).
I am trying to run TTDX for Windows on an XP machine. Following the guides, I have downloaded the Win version (I have the GameGFX.exe file) and installed it in a \Games\MPS directory. I have downloaded the patch (version 2.0 rev 1) for windows, and also the TTD Registry Editor and the TTD Patch Starter, for good measure.
When I run ttdpatchw.exe, the screen goes black, then shimmers about a bit (similar to the monitor degaussing) before returning to the XP desktop as if nothing had happened. I don't get any error messages here, just a blank black screen, which then disappears.
I've read some people suggesting altering the ttdxpatch config file (ttdxpatchw.cfg), but I haven't got one of those. (The patch hasn't created it yet?) I have tried to create one through the Patch Starter, but that didn't work either.
If I try to run GameGFX.exe (ie without the patch) I get the error message "Unable to access Transport Tycoon Deluxe CD!$", which I gather is a common error.
I have extracted both TTDX for Windows and the Windows patch to the one MPS directory, and it is from here that I am trying to launch ttdxpatchw.exe - but without any success.
I am not using a command prompt, but just double-clicking from the normal XP desktop.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Andy
My patch (TTDPatch 2.0 rev 1) doesn't work

The filename is "ttdpatch.cfg", without "x" or "w". To make the game work on XP, it has to contain at least the line "win2k on". If you don't have that file, just make it with Notepad for example.AndyRenshaw wrote:I've read some people suggesting altering the ttdxpatch config file (ttdxpatchw.cfg), but I haven't got one of those. Here is one, put this file in your game map/folder/directory, rename it to ttdpatch.cfg and run this desktop shortcut line:
C:\...\ttdpatchw.exe -W ttdpatch.cfg
C:\...\ttdpatchw.exe -W ttdpatch.cfg

Command Prompt
Thanks for that. So you do have to run it through the command prompt then?
It seems to work fine when I do; it'd just be nice if it was in a window.

If you want to switch between playing TT in fullscreen or windowed, you can do so with the program in your TTD folder (It's icon is the green fish symbol), it lets you choose windowed or full screen. I hope thats what you meant by:
