Infrastructure Costs

Post by Moriarty »

Seeing as there's a discussion for terraforming costs, i thought i'd instigate one for infrastructure costs too.

If you look at this:

http://www.trainweb.org/railwaytechnical/finance.htm

you'll get an idea of what costs are in the real-world.
As you can see, the infrastructure is many times more expensive than a single transet. TTD in general goes along the avenue that trains are the most expensive things.

If infrastructure were to be made to cost more, then it would result in a much more challenging game. Indeed it would have the potential to alter the way you play the game entirely.
At present some people conect all their tracks together into a network for realism (it certainly isn't efficient, or profitable in the game), however if the tracks and signals were made significantly more expensive, there would be a proper reason for building such networks.

I'm thinking each slab of track should cost 1000 (presently costs 100) by default. Road could be maybe 300 (not sure present value).
Airports could start at 100k for a small one, and station costs come in 10,000's

Needless to say, the above could be a switch thing.
i.e. realistic_costs

Any thoughts?

Good idea.

I think configuration file where all prices could be set would be nice :)
