TTD starting problems

Post by Pretender1979 »

Hi,

I read the topics in this help section for startting problems with TTD in windows XP. I tried all the solutions on my system. TTD Windows version, TTD windows patch, registry editor, compatibility set to Windows 95, win2k on in ttdpatch.cfg.

Now, at startup I get a black screen for about 2 seconds, and then my system returns to windows. Does anyone have experience with this problem?

We need more info here:
  • what version of TTD do you have windows, or dos ?
  • what version of the patch do you have, patch 2.0.1 rev 1 ?
  • is it the same as your TTD version it is windows or dos ?

-My patch is version 2.0
-I can't make out my tycoon version, the readme file only says "Transport Tycoon Deluxe (Windows) was published in 1996 by Microprose Software, Inc. and was ported by Fish (UK). Copyright by Microprose Software, Inc."
-Both are windows versions.

Post by andi »

Hello,
At Last I have the coolest game of my childhood TTD.
So I have installed windows 2003 server with directx 9.0b and tried to run the game. So instead of running properly I receive an error:[title]GameGFX.exe - Unable To Locate Component [text]This application has failed to start because DPLAY.dll was not found.Re-installing the application may fix this problem [button]OK
I have an ATI Radeon 9000 card and the video drives does not support other version of directx

Well the fish logo proofs you do have the actual windows version of the game.
So that should be OK.
Have you tried updating your video drivers ?
This guy succeeded by doing just that : http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?p=100154#100154

Don't download those files, copy them from your WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory, otherwise it could cause version problems with DirectX.

at last I solved it. The problem was that I wanted ttd so bad that i've installed it on 3 different locations from 3 different sources. The one I tried to run didn't have the ttd patch applied to it. Anyway 10x for your support now I am a :D person

I've downloaded and installed the newest drivers to my graphics card, and downloaded the DLL files, still no result. I've also tried copying the DLL files from my windows directory.
Maybe it has to do with the minimum resolution of my screen? The minimum is 800*600.

My screen also has a minimum resolution of 800x600, and I play TTD successfully. You need to set it to run in a window - you can do this easily with the registry editor. There is a link to it someone on the forum (but I can't recall where atm).

I've tried several tycoons. I tried starting it from a dos window now, so I could read the error message that occurs. I got the following message:

C:\Program Files\Transport Tycoon>ttdpatchw.exe
Unknown language '1043' specified in the environment
variable LANG or LANGUAGE. Known languages:
English, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Nor
wegian, Polish, Russian, Spanish
Use SET LANG=language to select the language.
E.g. SET LANG=french

You need to set the LANG variable first - something else has set it to a value TTDPatch doesn't recognise. Type:

set lang=dutch
ttdpatchw

(you can set lang to any of the languages listed by TTDPatch, it doesn't have to be Dutch)

I have been playing the alpha 26 version with no problem, then all of a sudden it started doing the same thing - the error with the language (only in my case it was "1033"). I have no idea what corrupted it. Where do I set the language?? In the cfg file?

you need to enter that in command console (run Win 9x: command.com, Win 2k/XP: cmd.exe)
and run that comamnd there:

set lang=dutch

(where of course you chaneg 'dutch' to whatever you want)
.. also I suggest creating BAT file that will always set it before starting ttdpatch[w].exe ... or putting that line into autoexec.bat

[this will change only texts of TTDPatch, TTD language will not be changed]

I finally got it to work!! Thanks for the help, because I would have never figured out that one.
BTW I run it on XP, but still haven't figured out why the game stopped recognizing the language setting. Anyway, as long as it works with the cmd.exe, I won't have any more TTD withdrawal symptoms :D
