Signal in front empty platform showing red

Post by stravagante »

This is maybe noobish question, but I'm still struggling with signals. I can't figure out why does signals in front empty platforms on the station are showing red.
I added the savegame just in case.
Thank you so much for your help.

Use an exit signal, instead of a exit/entry combo signal

I tried and it does not work (as you can see). I also tried (it is stupid, but I'm desperate :D) to replace all combo signals with exit signals, and (of course) that also isn't working.

The junction directly in front of the station is one big block, so the exit signals all show red as the block after them is occupied by a train. I would change the entry/exit so that there can be a combo signal between the crossing and the station and changing them in x crossings of two tracks, instead of your zigzag pattern. That way a track is only occupied a short time when a train is entering/leaving a station.

You may see 2 possible platform destinations in your game behind each exit signal, but the signals don't take impossible corners into account, and see full crossings like I have drawn.
There is a second connection between different groups of tracks shown at the right. What we see as exit connection is just a valid train connection if you don't consider impossible corners.

If you take out both 'impossible' connections, the exit signal behaves as you'd expect:

A simpler working layout is using path signals:
