Hi Everyone,
I'm new here but have been playing TTD for years.
The addition of more height levels in v1.5 of OTTD opens up the possibility of better really mountainous scenarios.
I thought I'd post a scenario I've been working on for my own amusement here in case anyone else is interested.
It focuses on the state of Tirol in Western Austria but I've used a large heightmap covering parts of Switzerland, southern Germany, northern Italy and much more of Austria in case I want to expand in future.
Currently only Tirol has towns, but it has a lot (I've not finished a few sections, but its 80% done).
I played around with the scale of the height map so that the valleys were of a realistic size in proportion to the size of transport infrastructure and towns. So in the major valleys you usually have space to run a couple of railway lines (double tracked) and have space for a few towns and industries, but in the narrower valleys, you'll struggle to build more than a single road or railway line without significant terraforming.
I only roughly adjusted the size of towns to reality and decided whether to place small villages based on the location - I place more hamlets in valleys which are otherwise sparse to make it more interesting to link them up to a transport network.
There's no industry except some farms and food processing plants which are needed for the towns to grow.
If anyone is interested in contributing by adding more towns, or making rivers/lakes etc. PM me and we can communicate and work on the latest versions.
Enjoy!

Screenshots, please! I have been working on my own scenario with extended height levels (NARS/ECS) and would look forward to seeing some visuals of your approach.

Not sure exactly what you want to see in screenshots - if possible, better to download the scenario and explore yourself.
But I've attached a couple: - A major alpine valley - space for some transport links, towns and industries, but gets crowded with town growth and multiple main train lines. - A remote alpine valley with the small isolated towns served by busses. Without massive terraforming its necessary to work with the landscape, just like in real life, so the roads can get pretty curvy.
If there is something specific, let me know...
