No sound effects or very buggy sound effects.

Post by whatburger1 »

Hello,

First of all, I'd really like to play the game, however, without SFX this game feels shallow and unplayable, and it seems I can't get sounds to work no matter what I do.

THE PROBLEM: There are no SFXs and sometimes some sounds pop up, but it seems very bugged
example: there are some weird cow/sheep sounds, some metal cutting sounds thing as well as sounds when laying track, nothing else, no ambient sounds, no train engine sounds, no city sounds. This limited sounds worked after reinstalling OpenSFX, before that there were none at all.

Let me clear some things up first.
1. I have OpenSFX installed and selected
2. Music works, graphics work (including 32bit ones)
3. Windows volume is at max, I triple checked
4. I am on latest stable release 64 bit, I tried 32 bit as well
5. I tried unistalling, deleting documents folder, reinstalling
6. I tried Google
7. I tried system restart
8. I checked sound menu sliders
9. I checked the config file, it looks like this:

Code: Select all

[misc]
display_opt = SHOW_TOWN_NAMES|SHOW_STATION_NAMES|SHOW_SIGNS|FULL_ANIMATION|FULL_DETAIL|WAYPOINTS|SHOW_COMPETITOR_SIGNS
fullscreen = false
graphicsset = "zBase"
soundsset =
musicset =
videodriver =
musicdriver =
sounddriver =
blitter =
language = english_US.lng
Is that normal? I assume it isn't. In game the soundset shows as OpenSFX.

I'm really lost, please help.

CONFIGURATION:
Windows 8.1 64bit
Intel i54670k @ 4.6 Ghz
HD 7870 GPU
8 GBs of RAM
audio output is S/PDIF stereo to a sound receiver, it works impeccably in any other situation, video games, movies, system sounds, etc.

Hi whatburger,
from what you describe, I think you are hearing the sounds as they should be, the cows/sheep and metal cutting is from the industries and is as much ambient sound as you will get, cities don't make sounds and the standard trains/RV's in the game only make sounds when leaving stations IIRC.

Wow, this is so weird in that case. I apologize for writing this post and it can be considered resolved.

Coming from TrainFever because I heard this game is better (Except no 3D graphics obviously) so I guess I was spoiled with the SFX.

There are some train sets with running sounds (eg UKRS2 or NARS2), but personally I find even the vehicle starting sounds get annoying after a while, especially with a big city full of vehicles. I tend to turn the sound effects off altogether and just listen to music. :)
