Little buildonslopes annoyance

Post by Sokko »

See the picture below. By all means, I should be able to build on that slope, the foundations can support it, but I can't. It will only accept it if the station comes at a right-angle to the slope, which is obviously not what I want. I discovered this elsewhere in a real game, this is just an example screenshot. Probably just an old TTD leftover insisting "You can't build stations on slopes!" :)

And even if it can't be fixed, a more explanatory error message than "Land sloped in wrong direction" is in order.

(note that this is not just with building on coasts, it also applies to normal slopes)

You can't build this because you wouldn't be able to connect anything to the end at the water. You can't leave "open" ends in the air, only sides.

The problem is that technically you can leave open ends in the air on a foundation, but TTD just doesn't recognize that.

So if you have a station on a foundation (1 tile higher) and at the end build a track pointing to the station, a train will just magically teleport 1 tile higher onto the station itself. Not a pretty sight.

This may be possible in future versions of OTTD, so hang on :)

Wacky. :) I realize now that TTD would count that as just another track, causing problems with trains, but you _should_ be allowed to build it if it's on a coast, since no train will ever be able to get to the end of it (technically, they can, but no one would go THAT out of their way to do it). In fact, I can't imagine any situation where you'd have the built-on-slopes end of a station sticking out into a track going the same way, unless you're doing it purposefully. Something could possibly be added to prevent you from building a parallel track facing that end of the station. "Can't build railroad track here - Too close to build-on-slopes" :)

I must be missing something but how did you get that 7 +7 option on your station build dialog, I use 2.01 rev1 but I don't have that option.
