Chris Sawyer now owns the "Transport Tycoon" name. He doesn't own the "Locomotion" name.
Oh, so that's why! But can't he just makes up another name instead of Transport Tycoon?
Why build a new brand when you've got one ready built for you?

Does making a new brand (name) cost money? If it doesn't, I can't see why he still uses the name "Transport Tycoon" for the new Locomotion-like game, because according to what many say Locomotion is very different to the original Transport Tycoon series.

If it does cost a lot of money, then I see why he kept the name.

It's not that it costs a lot of money, but obviously media coverage is entirely different and "fans" of the franchise will pay a different grade of attention. Imagine Call of Duty would suddenly be called Generic Shooter 37, who'd still buy that? Or the iPhone called, dunno, WhateverPhone 7? Probably next to nobody. It's all about the brand ... well, sometimes at least.

Going by marketing strategies Transport Tycoon probably would've been the better name than Locomotion even if he did still own that, so commercially it's an understandable decision.

Entirely understandable, considering there's billions of dollars in the Tycoon arm of gaming.

Seriously, what would you call it?

"... Tycoon" is the best way to describe the game to fit into the current industry. And what does the game involve? Well... Transport.

Besides, Sawyer started the Tycoon genre - it's without a doubt his right to use it!

Best utilization of resources. If it was named Chris Sawyer's Choo-Choo-Mobile, you'd have to pay for and build up a marketing team to promote it, develop brand awareness and recognition, pay for advertising, etc.

Transport Tycoon 2013? Already own the name, so no trademark registration required, and no fights with others claiming you're infringing on their product. Trade magazines and websites already know about your game, free advertising. Fans already know about your game, reduced marketing costs PLUS free word-of-mouth advertising.

Suppose he was. But Sawyer did it first here.

In fairness to you, Sawyer wasn't going to call it ...Tycoon but Microprose sort of forced the issue haha. Which is sort of obvious seeing as how Sid Meier founded MP.

Had MP not changed it's name, we might be talking about Interactive Transport Simulator 2013

Transport Tycoon is *the* definitive Tycoon brand name. (although Railroad Tycoon, Dinopark (???) Tycoon and Pizza (????) Tycoon came first) It makes complete sense to re-use the brand name! I should think Locomotion would've been called Transport Tycoon 2 or something like that if Chris S. had owned the brand name at the time.

I might actually play Lomo again for a while, to get back into the swing of things. :D

I hope the new game isn't the acronym.

I think this is true, and a lot of people would probably think different if it was.

I used to think it's time to cease the production of add-on objects for Locomotion as it has been an really old game, but I changed my mind after seeing the screenshots. I really want to continue playing the new game on my phone using my add-on objects, and I hope it is possible to do so without rooting my phone :P

I highly doubt that you are going to be able to use any existing add-ons to this mobile game.

If it has been based on Locomotion at least fundamentally (notwithstanding complete code rewrites), I don't see why the data files would be any different. It's still going to be a bit of a pain to get them to load into the APK though.
