Sands to Sands

Post by Loconoob »

It's only been 2 days since my latest release Red Winds Pass, but I become bored easily and I was testing a new program I found to generate random maps. It's just the landscape with no mods or industries added. all the settings are to the default north america, except the high snow level. The map has a coastal region on two sides, where onshore flow of moister keeps those sea facing slopes green and lively. The rest is desert, hence the name sands to sands, and contains only three cities, one tiny, one small, and one medium (3K-4K). There is a small highway connecting the puny town to the medium, and then a more extensive highway between there and the larger town. For whatever reason came in my mind at 2:00 in the morning, I decided to make a 2nd Interstate that branches from the first, with a final destination of absolutely no-where... Again, the map contains no mods as far as I know, so please enjoy and reply with game play pictures, ideas, or issues you run into. BTW I love feedback and It helps me make better maps, so if anyone has requests for routes they want made, just say the word :D

Hello again, yes, everything is hand lain, however, I think this map was made a little hastily compared to my new one I doing now. :D

Interesting as a landscape, but there's a few issues I found.

Most importantly, there are no industries. With only three towns, playability is severely limited too. So it would appear it looks better than it plays.

Otherwise, just a few little nitpicks. It could use some more diversity in trees; there's really only the one yew tree over and over, and the deserts are peculiarly free of cacti. Also, the highway interchange might be done a little more cleanly, like the pic I've attached.

I'm gonna mess with it, place a few industries, and add in the US semi trucks pack, provo scenery and all the SP stuff from plastikman, let's see how that turns out!

Well, there not being industries was so that people could design it thier way to be more fun, because I have sort of bad placement of industries. You seem very expirienced in Lomo, have you been a member before? Also, I haven't done much highways, so I was sort of just expiramenting, but I will definantly try that other way out... Uhhhhh, it would be A LOT easier if someone made a flyover for the roads, or atleast re-coded it... Thanks for the feed back, ohh, and the trees were just what grows in a dryish environment like down here in phoenix, and I was to lazy to putt cactus, which is why there wasn't green spots all over the map, to much work for me to be patient with :))

That makes sense. And yes, I was, but they banished me for being annoying, so now I'm not being annoying, I'm trying to be helpful. And as for a flyover for roads... I'm not much for coding but I can do some things. I'll let you know if my tinkering leads to anything other than an access violation :?
Also, if you want to release a version with cacti, industries, all that; I can send one to you in a couple days :)

That's cool, and I would probably do it on my own, but I'm focusing way to much on this new scenario I'm making right now. Btw, I found a freeway mod that I had forgotten about, It's called the causway bridge from Zeak, and It's pretty realistic looking if you want to check it out, though a second flyover would be nice for bridges over small creeks.

AFAIK the causeway bridge only works with the freeway mod. Either way one of the two would need modification to use with normal road.
