Cheeky sod :P

Seeing a topic with my name in is worrying enough. Seeing Dave posted it... I think I'm allowed to be concerned to the content.

I remember hearing about that last year. Glad I don't rely on the Thameslink route to get to London. The thought of getting stuck on a train like that for so long... yikes.
Ok, now I feel put off getting the train to Gatwick next month. Thanks a bloody lot Dave! :P

I think with all seriousness this report highlights how often front-line staff are hung out to dry by incompetent or absent management - poor communication didn't help but here we have two drivers on DOO operations, one injured in an uncoupling procedure, the other left to deal with 700 baying passengers in a confined space.

No wonder errors were made.

Surprises me how long it takes to put such a report together. I know all to well there's a lot involved with such but such an incident you wouldn't expect to take a whole year to put together. Then again, this is a field I'm still not educated in fully yet.

The reports require thorough research. You rarely see anything released within 12 months of the incident. The Grayrigg accident took 2 and a half years.

True. Likewise, the Potter Bar incident took even longer.

Going to have a better flick through the report later on. Cheers for sharing Dave :)

I hate FCC. They're inconsistent and always late. Bring back BR I say.

I love that documentary! Certainly shows the issues faced but also that there was a lot more to the problems.

Also, in one of the later parts I wanted to strangle the guy who slapped the mic on the boom pole and calling the camera crew stupid. Total moron.

I just like to bring it up as an example that BR wasn't always the rose-tinted nostalgia that people remember it being! And while the railway today isn't flawless, standards are much higher than they were (we demand air conditioning and PISes now, and don't like it with when 377s are replaced with 313s!*)

*Sorry Jacko! But to be fair, like you if I was commuting to school, I'd much rather do it on a 377 than a 313!

---

But yes, we've been discussing this RAIB report in the Cambridge club. Someone mentioned that one of the biggest problems is that they pull in before they meet and are quite forceful in closing (unlike newer doors such as Electrostars).

Amen to Jamie.

As to the report, did anyone else find it staggering that there was a fully trained train driver that didn't know how to couple stock and was a danger to themselves in doing so?

The doors. I think he's referring to the OTHER FCC report that was released by the RAIB in regards to a woman being dragged by a 365 at KGX after getting her fingers trapped in the door.

Try reading the report I posted, Jamie, before commenting, won't you ;)

ouch! 8o But still sounds like an indonesian method of not paying for a ticket (like the metal/concrete balls above the roofs of trains)

Haha - my bad. 2 RAIB reports get released at the same time to do with FCC. Only natural that I'm gonna get them mixed up!
