Different colour for owned roads

Post by OgO »

Hi everyone,

After posting my suggestion for banks I remembered the other one I was discussing in a thread recently that I'd been meaning to post here.

I think it would be good if you could see easily who owns which roads - as you can with railways with their fences around them.

Obviously building fences around roads isn't really a sensible idea (well, around most roads anyway :) I was trying to think how to do it and I could only come up with two alternatives:

Either colour the lines in the road - this I think would look a bit funny.

Or colour the edges of the road, this could be like a gutter or marking on the edge of the road. Here is a mock up:

What it is now:

What it could look like:

I don't think it looks too bad, I also don't know if it could be implemented or not, or even if anyone likes the idea, but the only way to find out is to suggest these things :)

Personally I vote against it. But I suppose there would be a switch for it, so if others want it, that's OK, I can just switch it off.

Maybe you could have little posts at the side of the road instead, that solid line is just too much.

Either way it'll be a lot of work, and I don't think it'll get done anytime soon, sorry.

Yes that could work, and could look quite good too.

Oh well, I didn't know how much work it would be, but thanks for looking at the idea anyway :)

It's not such a big issue most of the time, but it would be handy occasionally, particularly when building near competitors so you could easily see what is owned by whom.

I would have thought fences would be more practical, like, if you drive through my country, pretty much every road that isn't in a city is lined with a fence of some sort, be it safety barrier or farm wire fencing. Although posts are a good idea as well, if not better.

In the country, fences would be fine. The thing I had thought of though was if you own land in the city then you couldn't really put fences around it....

I guess another alternative could be to have all roads laid within the cities boundaries are owned by that city rather than companies - anyone could build or destroy road but it affected your ratings so you couldn't just go around destroying all the competitors roads, although I guess in reality you could, so maybe that's not such a good idea...

Oh well, I do still like the posts idea, and thanks for the feedback everyone :D
