OpenTTD Dedicated Server in Ubuntu Lucid

Post by drakhl »

I managed to install openttd through the lucid 64 deb package on the website. I have the openttd folder in /usr/share/games/openttd and the binary itself in usr/games.

Now keep in mind this is a server box (remote) with no graphics packages installed, I am doing everything from SSH. When I run openttd -f it successfully runs and says 'forking process to background pid XXXX'. But the server does not show up when I try to connect from any other computer, nor does any process I recognize as openttd show up with the top command.

Someone mind helping me out here? :)

Try starting the game without '-f' to see what is actually going on. I bet you are missing the "graphics" packages, and yes they are really needed as they are not only containing graphics but also some data. In any case, because of something not being right it won't start or rather exits pretty soon... but as it forked you won't be seeing the feedback OpenTTD is giving you.
