Where's my scenario?

Post by Jim Powers »

Mr. Rudge;

I posted a scenario "Oil Heaven" on your site
last week. It isn't on your site yet. This scenario
has 3 cities: 130,000+ 170,000+ and the largest
city has a 200,000+ population.

I am working on a new scenario, and already
have 1 city over 300,000 population! I'd like to
post it also when finished. Is there a problem?
Thanks for posting my "Cities with Subways".

Always,
Jim Powers :D :?

Sorry about that, I did receive your game... I've got a bit of a backlog where Repository games are concerned. I'll be adding a bunch probably tomorrow, including yours.

Where's My Scenario, Sir?

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear TTD Friends;

This is my 1st time at "Chat Rooms". I usually don't get into
"on-line" stuff too much. But, this looks like it could be pretty
cool. Just wanted to thank you for the "Welcome". Real kind
of you Mr. Marco and Spaceman-spiff, and of course, Mr. Rudge.

I wasn't complaining about not having my scenario posted, just
wondered IF I did everything right to GET it posted. It was such
a pain to do so without Mr. Rudge's help and I didn't want to "bug"
him with a stupid guy like me. I am a "self-taught" computer nut
with limited skills. But, I do have a pretty good imagination and
I love to create. Wished I could know the fundlementals of the
graphics for creating new buildings, I'd certainly be doing that.
Thanks again.

Always,
Jim Powers

hello Jim ...
nice town, you know that it can be even more
instead of making buildings in squares 2x2 you can demolish some roads and made space for budiling in 2xY (where Y can be even 10 or more) it can boost population in city center quiet much
what are you looking at? it's a signature!

Making Larger Cities

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear TT-Forum Friends;

I finally got through to the chat room. Mr. Rudge
said that Netscape can not always get in.

I've attached my lastest scenario. "Plenty of Planes"
This is an unfinished scenario that I thought be of use
to those who who'd like to take it and continue to create
their own scenario. There only [1] giant city with a pop.
of over 300,000 people! And all solid flat land
with water only at the edges. The point being add all the
transportion you want to supply this huge city and add more
cities of your own creation. Makes sense? I hope so.

Mr. Shadow, I believe I understand what your 2xY will do. The
reason I stayed with 2x2 is the freedom of AI not putting streets
where I don't want them to be. If you'll notice in the largest city,
San Diego, I had to delete some streets, so as to get my 200,000
goal. In the latest scenario, I didn't do it.

Mr. Spaceman-Spiff, I am reworking "Plenty of Planes" which
had 9 airports. Making it possible to have only 3 airports, thus
I got a 300,000 population from a 250,000 population goal. After
Mr. Grzegorczyk told me about the [3] airport limit. Also, at his
kind suggestion, I turned off the towngroth switch and now I'm
past 160,000 pop. on [2] other cities and still growing. Will let
you know when I'm finish. Thanks for all your help and support
(I really mean that!)

Always,
Jim Powers

What good are those ridiculously large cities, when there's no way to get rail service into the center of them? About all you can do is busses which cannot possibly keep up. Can you use magic-dynamite to plow a path through, like in SimCity? If so it would be a great opportunity for building a MAJOR commuter rail service, very cool.

He has created perfect space for "subways", airports and docks
You just have to look at the scenario

I would like to see his switches too

Dear TT-Forum Family;

First of all thanks for your interest. Now, I'll be happy
to let you know my "towngroth" listing numbers.

largertowns 1
towngrowthlimit 128
tgractstationexist 100
tgractstations 100
tgractstationsweight 100
tgrfizzydrinksinoptim 0
tgrfizzydrinksinweight 0
tgrfoodinmin 0

tgrgoodsinoptim 0

tgrwaterinoptim 0
tgrwaterinweight 0
towngrowthratemax 0
towngrowthratemin 10
towngrowthratemode 0
townminpopulationdesert 0
townminpopulationsnow 0

This is what is on my TTDX Configurator. I don't
know how to get into the cfg. switch files. Remember
I'm not an expert at knowing these things. I just followed
the advice of those who do. I still have trouble doing that.
I turned off "largertowns" switch, at Mr. Grzegorczyk's
suggestion. He said that the other switches doesn't matter
except in game play. The "eroding" of the towns cannot be
helped at this time, but, some of the "pro" say they are
working on ways to keep the population stable. I just go to
The Editor and "Expand" about every 3 or 4 years. This only
helps. Thanks Mr. Spaceman-Spiff for answering Mr. Taylor.

By the way, I just created my latest city, population 330,000!

Always,
Jim Powers.

P.S. Sorry about the last letter's "bold" print. I'm new at this.

Really, Mr. Powers, your work is very impressive now that I can see the holes for stations. I don't think I've ever played an existing scenario but yours intrigues me, I may very well download it and give it a shot. What an opportunity for enormous passenger trains. Kind of like the Tokyo system....

Did you know that you can destroy industries with that
It's a bug in the editor, the towns expand over them
That's why I never use it anymore

I will try your settings and see how fast the towns degrade
But halving a town in 4 years is a bit annoying, don't you think

Huge Cities

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear TT-Forum Family,

Jim, I began to wonder why you don't have any trgfoodinoptim etc. settings on that affect on city growth?

I don't know what "trgfoodinoptim", Sir. Is it in the Temperate Mode?
I only plan and play there. I've tried the tropics mode, but, I don't have
much luck in building large cities there. The same with the Snow mode.
Toyland doesn't interest me particularly.

Mr. spaceman-Spiff, You are right about the industries. In one of
my scenarios, (the one with Galveston,) I placed a factory next to
my central RR Station. But, I place "Sold" tiles around them and
nothing will affect them then.

Thanks for responding. By the way, I suggested that we
have a FUN contest, with NO prizes nor No rules, just build,
but, I was in "the wrong forum". (Whatever that is......) I think
it would be a good idea to promote new types of city growth.
Any feedback?

Always,
Jim Powers

I just realised I still haven't added your latest scenarios to the Repository, Jim - sorry about that, I'll do it this weekend (I don't have the e-mails with me now).

Jim, I myself think that trgxxxxxxxxoptim/xxxxx settings affect in every climate, but it determines, that does it say "goods", "water" or "food".

That's only what I think, because Andrex's TTD configurator tells that...
