need help with open-ttd 32bpp installiation?

Discuss, get help with, or post new graphics for TTDPatch and OpenTTD, using the NewGRF system, here. Graphics for plain TTD also acceptable here.

Maybe some paths would be easier. I don't consider myself a computer noob, but even I'm struggling a little here.

eg:

Put the 32bpp graphic files (TAR files/Nightly pack) in the Game Folder\Data as well. (There is no need to un-tar the .tar files, but .zip files need to be unzipped)

So, if I unzip, do I leave the folder directory structure intact? (Which I doubt, as it's called nightly with a date in the directory structure)

I'm sure it is simple to those who are familiar with the directory structure of OpenTTD, but for those of us new to it, it's not really obvious what goes where :)

Basically, yes, leave the folder structure intact.
But, if you've managed to download a .zip, you've probably downloaded the wrong file...

Where does it say that you can't download a zip though?
Installation

Download - In order to play you first need to download three Game files, Data files and 32bpp graphic files.

Game files - Download the latest version of the Extra Zoom game files here. Select the appropriate download for your operating system.
For different platforms see the Self Compiling Section below for instructions although as the binaries in the previous link are provided by the OpenTTD Compile Farm, it is unlikely you'll need this.
Data files - You can skip this step if you have OpenGFX and OpenSFX or the original TTD files(like trg1r.grf). If you don't, then download both OpenGFX Download and OpenSFX Download. (Don't forget you can use the in-game online content to update those files later)
32bpp graphic files - Choose one of the nightly packs (recommended) or individual TAR files from the List.
32bpp_extra.grf - download latest 32bpp_extra.grf file and put it to <game>\data folder.
It doesn't. So a newbie (like myself) assumes you can download either a zip or a tar.

Quite right, it doesn't, but since openttd cannot read .zip and it does say, 'but .zip files need to be unzipped' it should be self explanitatory (IMO)

I completely agree, it's just that when you said "But, if you've managed to download a .zip, you've probably downloaded the wrong file..." it threw me off course a little! :D
