Selling vehicles
To make OpenTTD more realistic, I think there should be an option which allows you to sell used vehicles to other companies.
Re: Selling vehicles
And what exactly is the gameplay benefit?

Re: Selling vehicles
I think he means that you could i.e. buy used vehicles that are cheaper than the new ones. Of course, they would also have all the disadvantages because they're old. That way you could buy cheaper engines in the beginning when you're low on money.
Personally, I don't think it would be very useful, sorry.

Re: Selling vehicles
I think it is a good idea, in a way.
Maybe not the selling of vehicles to other companies (but you can sell vehicles anyway it stands), but the ability to buy used vehicles from other companies or organisations (rather than companies). This would really help out near the start of the game where even the cost of a bus can be quite hefty dependent upon the size of your route, it would mean that expansion would be much quicker too as for the price of one vehicle the player could have two.
As mentioned there would be a drawback to this, the running cost would be higher and the reliability would suffer more but this would be a fair trade off (pardon the pun).
As for coding I don't think it would be much of a problem, I think it would be close to a case of cloning the existing available vehicles menu and adjusting the vehicle stats. Hopefully it would not require duplicate vehicle engine IDs as maybe when the user chooses a vehicle it tells the game that instead of being 0 years the vehicle is in fact 6 years old. However I know practically nothing about coding in OTTD so could not really give any serious input on the coding front.
I think maybe the selling idea could work in a way too, but I guess it would probably work best on a multi-player frame.
Still, a good idea in my opinion.

Re: Selling vehicles
I like this idea.
what could be usefull is a second hand market. You offer a vehicle an someone other aceptes or does nor. This could be a bit like a bazaar.
good idea for the multiplayer:)
