Question about using/not using AI's

Post by XadrianZ »

So I tried out basically all of the AI's and have decided which ones I like and don't like. I'd now like to only use the ones that I do like, but I can't seem to find anything on how to turn off or uninstall the ones I don't want to use.

Any help? :|

In the 'AI settings' in the main menu you can manually select which AI to start.
Also, in the 'content_download/ai' folder, you will find the downloaded AIs. Simply delete the ones you don't want.

I'm trying to start a game with just the regular AI (not a downloaded one), but I don't seem to be able to choose that one. I have previously downloaded a few AI's, and I can't uninstall them (as I don't have a content_download/ai folder (despite several uninstall/install processes)).

I do have the SimpleAI installed, but if I choose that one for every AI that's supposed to load, all the AI's in game will have SimpleAI as their name, instead of a randomly generated name. Which sucks.

Any help in this?

AIs can reside in <OpenTTD dir>/ai/ as well. Where <OpenTTD dir> can be many different places as explained in detail in the readme file.

If you by the regular AI refer to the old AI that existed up to OpenTTD 0.6.x, then the answer is that it does not exist anymore. The only way to get it, is to downgrade to 0.6.x with all security issues and missing features that come with that.

Many AIs assign a name to the company and possible also the company manager when they start. The most common procedure is to name multiple companies as <My AI name>, <My AI name> #2, <My AI name> #3, ... . Some AIs use more diverted names for their different instances.

My CluelessPlus use a fairly deterministic naming schema but does still not use the #2, #3, #4 schema, instead it has a list of names that it try in a pre-defined order until it finds a name that is not used yet. (Edit: but if you have problem with how the AI name their companies, then you will probably not like the station re-naming of CluelessPlus)

As said, there are a few AIs that use even more randomized names but I can't remember which AIs.

Yeah, I've checked that one, but it only contains compat_0.7.nut and compat_1.0.nut files, and opening those in notepad doesn't seem to yield anything worthwhile.

Yeah, kinda figured that...

I'll check some other out, then.

The irony in this is that SimpleAI doesn't use its own name as the company name, it uses randomly generated names such as <town name> Transport and <Manager Name> & Co. :P
And if this is your problem, the AIs can easily be modified to use randomly generated names. We can help you to do that.
