Resource sharing / Tree problems

Post by Zoig »

Hello

Is there any way to stop a station stealing resources from another? I added a screenshot where the expansion of a station caused the other station to lose resources. It's really annoying because, besides my poor design, I have to make a separate line that will transport the sand from the airport back to the sand-station and then have the main sand train transport it from the sand-station to the airport (because there is a glass factory under the airport/big station layout).

I know that deactivating the option to not stockpile resources unless they're needed helps but I don't like playing without it.

Thank you :)

Couldn't you just rebuild that part of the line so that the two separate stations become one two track station?

The two separate stations on the left are not the problem. They are part of Quarry.

Sinthill Quarry serves de sand pit.
Sinthill East is a giant station that server a couple of industries, one of which is a glass factory.

The problem is that East takes sand from the sand pit. I have train 3 that takes the sand from East back to Quarry. Train 2 takes the sand from Quarry to East.

The sand that builds up in East just stays there, the glass factory doesnțt use it.

I canțt remodel the East station. I'd have to destroy 8 or 9 lines plus the airport and a few truck stops. And even if I destroy it I can't move it somewhere because I'll lose coverage for a few industries.

Removed the airport (and screwed a lot of things), rebuilt another one but I still have the same problem.

Where is Sinthill East? I can't find it in your screenshot.

Second screenshot, on the right, renamed to Factory now.

Unrelated, is there a way to control the number of trees? :| I'm playing on 2048 maps and if I use trees... well... the whole map is filled with them :(

It is extremely irritating.
To solve it set that orders for sand train:
Go to Sand Loader (you may use full load)
No loading on Sand Acceptor

Or
Create second consumer station and create connection between big airport station and new sand consumer.

That is what I am using. Sand train full loads on sand pit an unloads on acceptor (leaving empty).

Second suggestion works in theory but in practice I would have to destroy a lot of railway and mess up the current layout :(

What about the tree problem? :D

You can control the number of trees with two settings:
'Tree algorithm' in the landscape generation window
'In game placement of trees' in Advanced Settings/Construction

And you can make them transparent or invisible at any time using the Transparency options during the game. (from the options menu)

The transparency window can also be opened using ctrl+x. If you ctrl + click on the tree button then the tree button state will not change when you hit 'x' to toggle transparency for all groups. The small button below the tree-button is used to toggle if 'transparent' trees should be completely invisible or just partially transparent.

Also, if you right click on any button in OpenTTD, it will show an explanation about what the button does and if it has any hidden ctrl feature.
