How to increase city growth?

Post by DominikTouring »

Hi there!

I was wandering on which circumstances a city actually grows - By that, I don't mean the Setting in the Advanced setting of growing fast, very fast etc.- i mean "naturally".

I realize that providing transporation lines in a city let's a city grow faster, but how does it work? Do I have to provide more bus lines, traines, airport - do I have to build more stations??
I started with a small city and it now has 16K ppl living there - It has an airport, many tramlines, busses, traines etc. but it stopped growing!
In the neighbor city, which was smaller at the beginning, only provide tramlines, busses, heliports reached 20K already (although the public transportation is worse)

So what did I do wrong / right??
What's the "recipe" for a hugh city?

Thanks for you help,
Dominik

A town grows best if 5 passenger stations have been served in the last 20 days, everything else doesn't matter in temperate. In arctic and desert you might also need to transport water and food depending on where the town is located.
The maximum size (or its growth speed) is also influenced by the x towns are cities setting. Only cities will get really big.

Thanks for the update, I will try that :-D

I guess I impede my city from growing as I have too many train lines around...

How do you guys actually set up intercontinental airports, because they are really large?
Do you build them "inside" a city or "far away" from a city and have commuter trains between city and airport?

cheers,

Plan for growth at the start of the game, and reserve the land required using the buy land tool

I have another question concerning town growth:

when does a town stop growing? I have, in a scenario with just 9 cities, a city with just over 900.000 inhabitants. The city started with 20.000, so growth wasn't the problem. but now, the population fluctuates between 920k and 900k. I wonder why, and if I can do anything to get it growing again?

I attached the savegame, maybe y'all have some ideas.

A city doesn't have a limit of when it stops growing, the only reason is if it can't expand outwards, are you blocking road expansion, or have you turned on 'towns can't build new roads' in advanced settings?

No roads are blocked, i even tried building the roads myself. And cities are free to build new roads as well. in smaller cities it works as well...

a city shrinks when a house closes down, the more houses you have, the more houses close down. so there is a point where growth and shrinking balance out. at this point the population fluctuates, until the conditions change.
