game freezes when getting server list (internet)

Post by grympel »

Running Windows 7 (64bit) on a AMD quad core. I've tried both 32 and 64bit version of the game and both have the same problem. I can play "singleplayer" and host games but everytime I try to access LAN games I find the game with a IPv? mark saying it's offline. When trying to browse internet games it starts to list but a few secs after it freezes the game. Swapping between lan and internet also causes a 10-20sec spike.

I've googled around and searched the forum for a few hours now and not gotten any closer to a solution.

Friend of mine has similar problem running windows 7 as well, although im also running windows 7 and dont get the problem.

His game freezes if he clicks the find server button on internet. and if he hosts a game , nobody else can see it. this was even happening when we were all at a LAN so it cant be router related, he could find LAN games but everytime he searches for an internet game it freezes and since his games are not visable we cant realy play together unless we use hamachi. windows firewall is turned off.

weasel: If games that your friend hosts can't be found even in a LAN then the firewall of your friends' computer do not let the traffic through. Ask him to look at the windows firewall and see that he has added the exceptions for UDP and TCP for the port that he hosts his OpenTTD server. If he run any third party firewall software in addition to the windows firewall ask him to check them as well. If he for example run his OpenTTD server at the default port which is 3979, then he need to add one exception for UDP and port 3979 and another for TCP and port 3979 to the windows firewall.
