Internet + OpenTTD

Post by Starn »

Every time i try playing on-line with OpenTTD my Internet starts to disconnect than reconnect and repeat for hours on end last time i tried it did so for a day and a half about..

even after unplugging every thing that connects me to the Internet it started working after i had every thing unplugged and rebooted my computer like that than plugging every thing back in

this effects not only my wireless connections but also my wired. any ideas?

Windows 7 Pro x64
Linksys Router wireless g
unkown modem from Att/SBC for high speed internet T1
OpenTTD 0.75 - 1.0 RC1 - 32bbp each in their own folder.
0.75 = C:\OpenTTD
1.0 RC1 = C:\OpenTTD 1rc1
32bbp = C:\OpenTTD high detail
if you need more info tell me what to find out.... and i shall gather it or try.

Sounds like you router/modem can't handle the traffic for some reason. That's a bug in the router/modem though, not in OpenTTD.

is there a possible way to fix this its driving me insane
i've done every thing i can think of even tried direct connection to modem and even different modem! i have 3 modems from my ISP the oldest one is probably from 2000 newest one is from 2007 - 2008.
this is the first game i've been having these issues with.. i play A LOT of old games they work...

guess i will stick to modern games and games like age of empires and starcraft

i am assuming you are connected to a wireless network - and this is a known issue with some wireless routers.... perhaps you should have used the search function, but you do not seem like the person who would do that!!
and yes - there is a way to get rid of the issue - use a wire, or buy a new (decent) router!
and before you reply and mention anything about wireless networks, really: go search!

no need to be a jerk about it and no i use wired and sometimes i use wireless depending on what room i am in.
it does not work on either
and I've also used other routers recently borrowed from my cousin's first router was linksys another was netgear. D-Link

also if you learned to read. despite fact its poor grammar
you would notice i tried it directly connected to the modem provided by my ISP and 2 other modems that have been provided by them

edit:
forgot to mention it does this on my other computers to. hence depending on what room i am in.
i have 4 computers connected to the network i temporally unhooked them from it to try a direct connection to modem
computer in my bedroom is wireless the other 3 are wired. i do not use bedroom computer for much other than iTunes and downloading music

i agree with Rubidium, especially if you encounter similar problems while using p2p software or the like.
in that case i would suggest looking at your router vendor site (Linksys) for instructions regarding the latest firmware update, that should fix the problem.

dihedral, i'd like to think you had a bad day and you misread the guy's post (happens to me all the time) otherwise you just an ***

Enough bickering now.
Dihedral: even while you maybe right you don't have to say it in such a way, please try to be a bit nicer next time. If you really can't, then don't reply to such topic at all.
neob: if you have a problem with a specific post you can report it, don't continue the fight in the topic itself.

Starn: I hope you were able to fix the problem, if not it might be worth a try to borrow another modem/router from a friend/family to see if that solves the problem.

what do you mean by p2p pay 2 play or peer 2 peer? either way i have never had issues with either
this is about my first issue at all with my internet other than some times my isp is having issues on their end and my internet is reverted to dailup speed which in 4 years time this happen twice. i'll look into seeing if some one has a modem that will work with my internet. despite me trying two other modems and using no router

i meant p2p as in file sharing software as in torrent, emule and such
or basically anything that require your router to establish multiple connections.

if generally you only surf the web than normally you wouldn't be effected by this problem.

try turning things like torrent off, it can be the cause of a nice bandwidth load - also internet readio / tv will cause high traffic.
if you have a separate modem and router, replacing the modem could also be an idea.
if all else fails - one could assume the fault to be with the isp
