Anyone else got this problem with crossed rail tracks?

Discuss, get help with, or post new graphics for TTDPatch and OpenTTD, using the NewGRF system, here. Graphics for plain TTD also acceptable here.

Anyone else got this problem with crossed rail tracks?

Post by Sealbhach »

I've got the Extra Zoom Levels and the 32bit graphics on Ubuntu and it all looks great, except for this problem with tracks. I had to unzip the .tar files and copy the contents into the data/sprites folder. It all works fine except for this problem wherever tracks cross in the Temperate game:

It works fine in the Tropical game, but not in Arctic. I deleted all the sprites again and re-copied everything from the latest graphics pack in again to data/sprites but the problem persists. Anyone else got this problem or know how I can fix it?

By the way, I think the sprites you guys made are incredible, so thank you.

I wouldn't know, but I'm guessing that that particular sprite doesn't exist yet.

As far as I can remember there has been some going back and forth with the railroad sprites. There was a tar that also included these crossroads. But I'm not sure where I got those.

Is not recommended to extract the PNG files from the TAR files. Extract only the GRF and OBG files.

I recommend You to use only the latest megapack and the OpenGFX graphics.

Did you scan the forum and find that railway track tar? becuase it looks like the one I uploaded for testing/alignment with platforms which did not include junctions. If so, there is a tar on the wiki derived from this which has all the sprites.

Hi,

As far as I know, I've been using the latest megapack which I downloaded from Rapidshare on this thread:

http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=46682

I selected the 32Bpp Full TAR pack.

Hi maquinista,

I deleted all the PNG files from the openttd/data/sprites/subfolders and just left the unpacked tar files in /openttd/data but it didn't work.

The only thing that seems to work is unpacking the tar files completely into the /sprites folder.

Combinations of opengfx and tar can have varying success, I've tried to sum it up here:

Thanks.

I started from scratch again and added only the Rails sprites, but the problem remains.

Are they working OK in Windows? Anyone using Ubuntu who got the rail junctions looking OK?

I got the Rails .tar from the repository, so I assume it's the latest version.

@Sealbhach, its clearly that we dont use the same sets, look at your stony edges, are you sure you dont have any other NewGRF turned on?
because i dont recall seeing this sprite before ...

Hi neob,

I think those stony edges are just the foundation sprites, they're caused by my uneven landscape. Can you confirm you're using Linux, and you unpacked the PNGs from the .tar files?

I'm using Ben Robbin's rails from the GFX repository - http://jupix.info/openttd/gfxdev-repo/i ... file&id=34 so I think I've got the latest set. I don't have any new GRF's activated at all. ?(

You have the junction slightly different, look at the sprite closely.

OK, well I ran the game in Windows 7 using the same Rails set from the archive http://jupix.info/openttd/gfxdev-repo/i ... file&id=34 and the junctions look fine.

However, the exact same set in my Linux build look messed up, as in the pictures.

Has anyone compiled the Extra Zoom Levels in Linux and got the Temperate rails looking OK?

Nobody has answered to this question so far. :?

(in any case i doubt its an OS specific problem unless there is an os specific loading order or something like this)

The layout is not important, because the junctions are a composition of a five ground sprites and six different tracks.

Hmm, Linux.. Now you mention it I think some of those sprites had caps instead of lowercase font. I guess the game looks specifically for lower case filenames. So, I'd just rename them. And to the 'package manager' and coders: make all files lowercase please.

I tried thie file on Gentoo Linux, and there is a problem with some of the filenames. They are .PNG iso .png
There is also a directory Sprites iso sprites in the tar but that does not seem to give a problem.

You can untar the tar: tar xvf xxxx.tar.
Then go to the sprites/ogfx1_base directory and give the following commands (assuming you're using Bash):

Code: Select all

for file in `ls *.PNG` ; do mv $file `basename $file .PNG`.png ;done
cd ..
ln -s ogfx1_base trg1r
The first command will rename all the incorrectly named PNG files to png.
The last command will create a symlink from trg1r to ogfx1_base, which means that the set will work with or without opengfx activated.

Repeat this for the other ogfx directories (replace the names in the ln command with the appropriate ones)

Then you can tar the files again, and you should be fine for both ogfx and original (windows) grfs.

Most Linux users are very well capable of self compiling, and that is already documented.
http://wiki.openttd.org/32bpp_Extra_Zoo ... -Compiling

I'd rather have a graphics pack that is not in exe format, zip, gz, bz, anything is fine with me on Linux, except exe.
