Question:- XP version of TTD.
Question:- XP version of TTD.
I have found this link on UK Amazon that indicates that you can now buy an updated version of Transport Tycoon Deluxe which will run on XP.

I would assume if there is a link from UK Amazon that it is legit but I would like to know for sure. Also I would like to know if it is compatible with Open TTD.
I used to have the original DOS version of this game and would like to be able to play it again.

No, it's not. They're charging you 5 quid for, probably, TTDPatch 2.0.1, and giving you an "abandonware" copy of TTD with it for free.oldman46 wrote:I would assume if there is a link from UK Amazon that it is legit but I would like to know for sure.

So how is Amazon, Legally, allowed to offer a link to this site?PikkaBird wrote:No, it's not. Also the only other options available through Amazon are used versions that cost more.
Where can I get a legit version of this game?
After all I need a legit version of TTD to run Open TTD.

You can legally charge money for a GPL product you didn't make. But you must be able to provide its source code (at least) upon request.oldman46 wrote:So how is Amazon, Legally, allowed to offer a link to this site?PikkaBird wrote:No, it's not. Who do you think is "allowing" them?oldman46 wrote:So how is Amazon, Legally, allowed to offer a link to this site?
Well, there's your option, if you want to buy an authentic copy. If you're okay with an "abandonware" download like that site is offering, you may find some links in this very forum which won't cost you a penny...Also the only other options available through Amazon are used versions that cost more.
No, you don't actually. After all I need a legit version of TTD to run Open TTD.
Re: Question:- XP version of TTD.
I assume that the copyright on the original game is still owned by someone.PikkaBird wrote:

Re: Question:- XP version of TTD.
There is and OpenGFX project, which offers free base graphics files for the game, so there is no need for the TTD files.I get the impression that there are some files in TTD that are needed for Open TTD
It is still not finished though (temperate climate is finished though IIRC)
Re: Question:- XP version of TTD.
Right I just tried to Download the latest version of Open TTD and has asked me for the Graphics files among others. So what do I do now?

Could you explain what to do about the missing sample.cat file? I am confused about the instructions in the readme file.CommanderZ wrote:download this and place it into data folder
