Joined waypoints?

Post by mak_elblotto »

I've been doing some sandboxing with the new PBS and I've hit upon a bit of a dilemma; What if I want trains to go through a waypoint (say at a junction, so they don't get lost), but I also want to give them a choice of which track to take?

Would it be possible to 'join' waypoints the same way stations are joined, so that a train passing through one way point has effectively passed through any/all of them?
Or, alternatively, could it be possible to give a conditional order 'Goto Waypoint #1 (OR) Waypoint #2'?

I realise that if used incorrectly it could cause trains some serious confusion, but with PBS allowing more than one train to occupy a junction, why force them onto a single track to make them pass through a Waypoint?

Perhaps the picture below will help clarify my case:

Just build a station and use a "go via" order.

That's a good idea. I never thought of that.

However don't you lose ratings if a station doesn't have a train stop at it reasonably frequently? Or is that only if there is cargo waiting to be picked up?

Only if there is cargo waiting, so that is no problem :)

OTTD´s "waypoiint concept" is outdated since there´s support of the newstations feature (which includes "waypoints" as stations).

Boy, do I feel stupid now! I just never thought of that either.

This will actually work better than waypoints, since trains AFAIK will try to avoid stations for which they don't have orders.

Now I can put a "waypoint" station on an LL-RR main and the train will take either side!
