Hey,
I haven't played this game before, just decided to try it out beacuse I was looking for a rail game and someone pointed me here (I used to play Railroad Tycoon back in the day). The game itself seems very cool so far, however there is so freakin much clicking... building roads and rails is really complicated because it doesn't just auto-build, you have to select the right angles and stuff. And you have to click that tiny ltitle X to dismiss dialog boxes, etc.
Are there shortcuts to make some of this stuff easier or is this just how it is for a 90's era game? Mainly I'm concerned about building roads and rails faster.
Help building roads and rails - so much clicking?

Re: Help building roads and rails - so much clicking?
For building roads and rails there is a “quick build” button right next to the regular ones (the button that looks like two tracks/roads crossing each other). Depending on where you position your mouse on a field you can build tracks or roads in the according direction. And you’d just drag your mouse to build over several fields, just in case you didn’t know.
Whatever happens, don't click this link!!

I've not stumbled accross one for closing windows individually, but when you get a huge deluge of different windows opened you can dismiss them and jump back to the main screen by hitting del (delete) which is quite handy
If there's any documentation of hotkeys in openttd, I haven't found it yet (not on the wiki or this forum, anyway). There certainly aren't many while building tracks (although there are a few for signals, and the GUI is tasty)
Thinking about it, a shortcut key for switching between the seperate track directions could be handy (and more accurate than the autorail tool)

Try 1..4 (and 5 / A for autorail). 1..5 only work with the rail toolbar open (they have different meanings with other toolbars open). 'A' always works for enabling autorail (and closes any road/water/airport toolbars you have open.Thinking about it, a shortcut key for switching between the seperate track directions could be handy (and more accurate than the autorail tool)

Doh, I tried searching for hotkey on the wiki - didn't think of pluralising it
And I'll try that, thanks
