The unusual transportation thread

Post by michael blunck »

Hi all,

After having discussed the different facets of transportation in so many serious threads, wouldn´t it be interesting to take a look onto the more funnier side of it?

I´ll begin with a picture from Ghana: some guy carries away his newly acquired shiny car. It´s still a long way home ...

In Cambodia, the railway service was all but destroyed by Pol Pot's regime. Now trains run four times a month, with very low speed and frequent derailment. The locals have taken to making use of the rails themselves, using lots of bamboo, bits of old tanks (for the wheels) and some petrol engines made available through international aid to provide a faster and more frequent service of their own.

They call it a norry. It's mostly illegal, and when two meet they lift one off the tracks in order to pass each other. The one with the heaviest load has right of way. If that's difficult to determine, then rock-paper-scissors is the fall-back.

I prefer more traditional methods of transportation. And you don't have problem to find a place to park!

Someone in the US came up with this way of reducing rolling friction on my favoured mode of transport.
