Save game error
Hey guys, upon downloading 0.6.1, I found myself unable to save games. Or well, that's only partially true: it seems that whenever I load a game, and then try to save it again my OTTD messes up. It gives me a pop-up error saying "Game Load Failed. File not writeable" and it also opens up a screen which looks exactly similar to the "cmd" thingy in windows. Anyone else has this? The previous versions worked fine over here so should I just wait for 0.6.2 to come out? I tried reinstalling but that's about all I could come up with

Re: Save game error
What savegames are you trying to load? On what version they were made?
Re: Save game error
Well at first I just started a new game, so 0.6.1 in any case. Furthermore I think most of the others are from version 0.5.3
Re: Save game error
Just tell me two things. Are you on Vista? And if you are, is OTTD in a protected area (like nearly the whole C: drive)?
Re: Save game error
Is your openttd.cfg in the directory where OpenTTD is installed? If so, then OpenTTD is trying to save the games at a location where Windows forbids it to save. You should place openttd.cfg in a subdirectory called OpenTTD in your "my documents" directory and it should work.
Re: Save game error
^Tried it, didn't work. Running as an administrator didn't really have the desired effect either.
Re: Save game error
Well guys good news with thanks to Rub I fixed it: If I manually save my game in C:/Users/*NAME*/Documents/OpenTTD/Save everything works just fine (autosave's still a bugger). Thanks!
Re: Save game error
You may need to remove the save directory from openttd install dir.
Re: Save game error
Hi,
perhaps there should be a version check in the windows version of openttd
if "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion".CurrentVersion > "5"
// this is Vista or above
then never use the program directory for any new files (save, config, screenshots).

Re: Save game error
I'd then remove the code and release a patch...if I put OTTD in a non-protected area or run it with admin permissions I want to save where it is...I think there's a way to request elevation when saving (to a protected area), but I'm not sure how.
