In Iraq - need diff download source

Post by cptmcnair »

I'm in Iraq and really want to play Open TTD. The Network Nazis here don't allow downloads from Sourceforge, Tucows or any other place like those. Does someone know of other places to download Open TTD?
Thanks!

Just out of interest. Did you try using proxies?
And who exactly are those 'network nazis'?

Just download the from svn (svn.openttd.org) and compile yourself. Or find a compiled version in the development section (usually compiled with a patch or patchpack, but at least you can play).

Their actual title is Network Admins. They keep the networks running. To do that, users can't download stuff, look at blogs, forums or Myspace.
I can't set up proxies or tunnels since that would get around the Network Nazis.

as you cannot compare the network controlled status of 2 countries easily, perhapas you dont want to go there trying to compare.

also, note that if they are blocking access to certain sites, you might find them also content scanning - network n. might not go down very well.
perhaps you can contact your isp and find out reasons for such things, and make sure you dont offend / violate any rules layed down by your isp.

Quite obviously a soldier or similar who is in Iraq cannot just use proxies to get around a network block - I can't imagine it'd go down too well...

I'm not aware of mirrors of SF that your ISP does not block. But instead of using a stable version you could try a downloading nightly version which can be found on nightly.openttd.org

So no proxies means that Tor won't work for you? That 's pretty bad.

the limit would come from terms & conditions of use for the network!! any violation could (as a minor result) bring a cancelation of the contract = connection gone!

If you mail me at bart at vlingen . nl I can e-mail you a link on my server where you can download the latest version. I try to keep it uptodate with the latest stable release, so you can always use this link. It's an extract-and-play zipfile, for windows.

Sadly not, and I'd rather you didn't base your entire transport knowledge on the basis of OTTD's playerbase and it's tendencies to do hideously bad things with the rails.

And keep the politik out of it. This is the one of the few things I can enjoy without having to talk s*** about s***.
