AI rail building with "Forbid 90 degree turns" on

Post by Tve4 »

The Ai will continue to build 90 degree turns even when the "Forbid trains and ships to make 90 degree turns" is active. As a result, AI trains cannot get anywhere, and after awhile the AI player tries another (also equally curvy) route solution and finally floods the region with rails (no place left to lay my railroad!) -- Grrrr!

Long story short: please forbid AI from building 90 degree curves.

This would be useful indeed. Although short 45° turns are also quite annoying - trains must slow down thus limiting their limited competitivness. :-)

Also AI seems to do whatever possible to avoid diagonal rail lines. This also results in zig-zag and U turn patterns similar to roads.

And the bridge-building frenzy should be put under control... whatever the obstacle, AI will span it with a bridge. Especially when setting the town road layout to 2x2 or 3x3 grids, AI tends to build a looooong bridge over the town. That could be cool if it weren't always the slowest possible wooden trestle. :o

Oh, and paving the region with asphalt is not unheard of...

I always end up forbidding the AI from building trains. It kind of works, because then the AI is less intrusive. Setting it to smart and having 4 competitors makes it likely to have at least one, if not two working competing companies. :D

for me the AI also seems to have this thing with terraforming
even on flat land it insists on raising and lowering everything all the time
