Also AI seems to do whatever possible
to avoid diagonal rail lines. This also results in zig-zag and U turn patterns similar to roads.
And the bridge-building frenzy should be put under control... whatever the obstacle, AI will span it with a bridge. Especially when setting the town road layout to 2x2 or 3x3 grids, AI tends to build a looooong bridge over the town. That could be cool if it weren't always the slowest possible wooden trestle.
Oh, and paving the region with asphalt is not unheard of...
