Can't delete v2.5 ttdpatch.exe

Running DOS version on WinME, original ttdx worked fine, the TTDpatch 2.0.1 worked fine. Wanted some more grf files but needed the 2.5 version to use. Got grf's from the transport terminal link. Well, had some issues while trying to run the 2.5 of ttdpatch.exe and the new grf's so I decided to forget it and tried to delete the 2.5 for ttdpatch.exe. It won't let me delete it. I had placed a copy on the desktop to use as a shortcut. Can't delete that either. Says Access denied Source file may be in use. So I created a whole new folder and placed everything in it but the ttdpatch.exe. Folder deleted, but now I can't delete it out of the recycle bin, not that I care about the recycle bin but I still have the desktop copy. How do I delete these files? Oh and I did get the 2.0.1 version back to working again with no issues.

Thank you for the response. I did get version 2.5 to come up and run. Got some error messages that I was able to clear up when I realized I was using the wrong TTPATCH.CFG file. D'uh! That's when I thought I would set up the desktop shortcut. Still got an error message for not finding a certain cfg file. But before I went looking for it, I thought I would go back to square one and reinstall the game, and since it's the DOS version I was just going to delete everything and start over. So, before asking for help I thought I would start from scratch by deleting everything and reloading. Then if I still had a problem I was going to come look for help. First thing I did was try to delete the Desktop icon. That's when the "fun" began. I have never had a file I couldn't delete, especially a DOS file. I have seen this access denied before with MSword documents, but that clears up when I remove the file from the recent document list and then reboot. I even deleted all references to "TTD" in the windows registry and then rebooted. One other thing...Since I had downloaded the 2.5 zip file at work I unzipped the file and put the exe file on a floopy. Apparently the floppy was bad because my home system said it couldn't read the file. then put the work file on a CD-RW and copied it on to home. copied fine but when I check the properties of teh desktop icon it activates my floppy drive.

Good. We don't like getting "It doesn't work" reports. There are quite a few of us who have no problems, so if it doesn't work for you, you're probably doing something wrong, but we can't help without more information.

You'll have to actually change the properties; it's probably still pointing to the copy that was on the floppy.

Ever do one of those stupid things and then ask yourself what the $%^# did I do that for, that was stupid. I booted to DOS and then went to the desktop directory and proceeded to delete the file the way I used to back in Win95 days, ah those were the days (don't miss them one bit!). File's gone. Now, before I go mucking things up, I decided to download and installed the windows version of TTDX, has more grfs avaliable. Works great, sounds great! I am excited (yeah I know, I don't get out much) I am going to apply the 2.0 TTDpatch for windows but before I go loading and setting up a bunch of cool grf files, what should I do to first get the 2.5 ttdpatch for windows loaded and then set up a good grf file? Thanks.

Skip 2.0 completely. The number of GRFs still available that work with that can be counted on one hand.

great, thanks for the info. I was getting that idea about 2.0 which is why I want to go to 2.5.
I will end here with this string. If I have any other questions for the ttdpatch and grfs I'll check through other postings. If I don't find what I need, I'll start another string. Thanks, again.
