Many Trains on the Railroad

Post by Dragis »

Before I start to write about OTTD (which is one of my favorite games) I will tell you that I am from Germany and am not perfect at english. I will try my best and hope that you understand the meaning of my words.

Now to open Transport Tycoon Deluxe... While playing the game, I developed a nice way of using Railroads. And so I placed many (about 80) Trains on one Railroadsystem. Due to the number of trains I encountered a problem, which might be a bug, but i'm still not sure.
So the problem (siplyfied) is not easy for me to describe it in english. Build 2 Railroadstations and a Railroad between them. Place a traffic light (or so) in the middle of the Railroad. Then start one train from each Station the other ... the trains will meet at the traffic light and cannot move on due to the road is blocked by the other train.
But instead of hold on and wait for the other train to move away (which may truly never happen in this case, but it can happen in my complex Railroadsystem), one of the trains turn around, drive back and find never a way to its destination.

It would be very nice if you could implement an option in a new version of OTTD. The option may sound like: "Allow trains to turn around if they connot go on" or in german :-) "Zügen erlauben umzukehren, wenn sie nicht weiter können".

I hope you can understand the problem and can implement an option with no much work.

Greetings and many thanks from germany for this fantastic game,
Dragis

I think you have to take a look at the signals tutorials ;)

In OTTD, you have :
- Single way signals
- Pre-signals

Both will allow you to have a 100% "bug free" network.

I can't find the simple signals documentation...

PS : And try to post a savegame and tell us which version exactely you are playing. Someone could fix your network, then upload the upgraded savegame, then you'll have a good example on how it works :)
