TTD (Windows) crashes with latest patch - unknown reason

Post by Zaphod »

Hello,

Hoping someone can help me out as to why (and a possible fix to) the attached save game which keeps crashing. I've no idea why, but I can't get around the issue - the game even crashes while paused.

Attached is the save game (two of them - both basically the same - about 5 days apart), and the config file. Crash dump below.

If I should be forwarding this to the bug list, mailing list, or patch author for help please let me know. Thanks!

I think you won't be able to get around the issue, since that's a nightly version you are using. Those versions are released amost without any kind of testing and guarantee at all.

For improved stability, serve yourself with latest 2.5 beta 9 version.

You can ALWAYS get around the issue. Turn a switch on or off, upgrade to a newer version, or downgrade to an older one.

And if everyone used the betas, how would we ever find and fix these problems in the nightlies?

The crash is in Class5DrawLand, so some station somewhere is broken.

I tried with the beta patch to no avail. Though I guess if a station is broken, it's too late for that!

Is there any way to identify which station, or what type of station (or which players station) is broken? Or should I just be going down the "New Game" route here?

Thanks again.

Did you build/modify a station recently? Especially if you used the adjacantstations feature, that is probably the broken station. Not that this really helps, except to make the problem repeatable. If you have a save from just before the offending station was built, so we can watch things break, that would also be useful.

Cht: RemoveGhosts also may solve some problems.

That cheat didn't help sorry. I think I partially worked it out to AI building non-level airports (I started a new game). The game crashed, so I reverted back, removed their non-level airports, and was able to play for a few more years before the problem recurred.

I have a few save games but its got to the point where its hard to determine what is breaking it - there are some 5 AI players adding stations all the time. I can upload all the saves if you like? Or would you prefer me to try and narrow it down somehow?

Also, is there a bug with having too many save games in the folder? The game crashed when autosaving/manual saving when I had tons of save games in the folder - only when I removed a few was save game functionality returns.

The correct procedure is to post a single savegame that can be loaded and will then exhibit the broken station building within a game month, without any user interaction.

I realize that isn't going to be easy, but it's the best way of getting the bug fixed.

What is all this with the AI building non-level airports anyway? I've seen non-level ones, ones on the sea, ones going through other peoples' stations... and I don't remember seeing it before. :?
