It opens ok in 0.5 RC5.

He has $5,500,000,000 and performance of 887 in the year 2144.

Seems rather average to me!

I think he want's to show off a bit, no problem we all have that sometimes I think. (Look at serveral screenshot threads.)

I have a game like this too. :)
EDIT: I have some abandoned bustops that I need to remove and I don't use presignals very much as you might see. :P
But I try to have 100% on everything and I did succeed at that. :)

I make 2,000,000,000 a year only with trains. :)

I got tonnes of money so I terraformed the whole landscape (1024 x 1024) and squarafied it. :P

Are you kidding!? I usually start my games in 1954, and I'm in trouble by the time the 60s are about to come.

I don't know what your style of playing is, but the game is accepted as 'generally easy to win'. So if you like, post a savegame to show it to us. Maybe we can give you some advice.

Also I don't know if you do it, but for making good networks: 'Shut down the AI'. They are obstructing you more than that they give you trouble.

I agree. My personal stance, though, is that I don't play to win (I don't have that need to make myself feel like I'm the greatest). I play for my own satisfaction. I'm slowly trying to make networks that, although pretty and scenic, work in realistic ways. At least as realistic as TTD limits it. Its easy to flatten land, build straight rails and rake in millions but if you limit yourself to making realistic junctions and layouts you'll find it surprisingly challenging and much more satisfying when the cash finally starts rolling in! :D

Johnny B Goode - Never underestimate the power of a good bus service network early on. Although the profit isnt very high, it is steady profit. Plus, as they are lower capacity and the running costs are much, much lower, you can run more buses per line which increases the passenger turnover and therefore your station ratings! ;)
Also, coal is the resource to aim for if there are suitable locations. Its probably the best early-on money-spinner.

And as another tip, on these forums there are serveral topics about how to start a game. Look for them and maybe you will find something usefull from there. I for instance almost always start with a small coal train route. It's a little investment but a good and also quite steady money-making-machine. :P

I'm currently playing with UKRS with the freight train multiplier set to 4. Makes for a more interesting game. Tracks have to be built really tactically on hilly maps because the early trains struggle with the hills.

Building really long straight tracks on flat maps is really dull and boring.

Mr. X: Okay. I'm very much a newblet at this game, and I only recently mastered the passing loop and learned that I should shut down the AI. Usually, at the beginning, I have money to burn. I mostly run passenger systems, if this'll help. With the point-to-point, by about 1957 or so, I'm in deep s*** ($7K) and I take out a lot of loans. I still get into deep s***. Using networks keeps me around $20-40K. But I never have more money than I start out with.

Ben_K: I play because the system is very cool, and I mostly get extensions. I use trams instead of busses, but thanks for the advice. And I'll remember to look for the coal mines.
