Problems with TTD running slowly on XP

Whenever I run TTD with TTDPatch on my XP machine, the PC grinds to a halt. The game uses 100% of my 1.5GHz processor, which on my PC isn't a good idea as the bugger then tends to get up to around 60 degrees C. I tried it before and after I re-installed and have the same problem. Surely such a small game shouldn't make my PC crash and burn? (Quite literally if i don't sort my processor cooling out soon...)

Are you sure this doesn't happen with other games ?
You're not runnig seti on high priority ?

What is your morevehicles settings in ttdpatch.cfg file ?
If it's too high , make it smaller, start with 1 ?

I heard from a friend too that the game takes 100% of the processor on a 200 mhz and on a 1066 mhz.
