AI getting in the way

Post by phil88 »

Is there a way/a patch to stop the AI companies getting in the way? Here's a screenshot of what I mean;
Image

As you can see, the AI built a road bridge over my station area and totally scuppered any chance of making the station bigger.

Disable the AI?
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

I say that's judgement on you for using the AsiaStar to transport freight. Incidentally... Just buy the AI company out.

i buy all the land around industries that the AI may want to service. I.E. that yummy factory you're hauling tons of grain and livestock to. 4 tiles away is enough to keep train stations out of catchment, but usually 3 tiles deep will deter the AI from building near the industry.

be warned though, it gets hella expensive and you totally p*** off the local authority before I have lots of money I'll build a cordon area around my industry with rail/road crossing tiles that they can't bridge over. it's the least expensive option but is hella ugly (well the signs on wasteland isn't that great either)

here's an example of both:

If you refuse to let the AI build near "your" industries, or interfere with your network, why even bother turning it on....

Hello Dude...!

I dont like the AI because of its stupidity, but sometimes I play a game with the subsidiespatch like I'm the minister of finances or infrastructural and transportation affairs. This means, I start a game in 1920 with 7 AIs enabled. First I cheat me up to some millions and repay the loan, then I let the game start with AIs starts emedietly and watch what will happen.
Off course of its stupidity, some competitors are dieing very fast, others just hunt for a subsidy and leave it after one year. In this two cases I buy the hole company and close it down or rebuild its lines so that it will survive as a part of my mothercompany. In games like this, I dont build any line or vehicle for my oun company, just buy the AIs company if its in financial troubles and make them my slaves. I optimise theyr lines and vehicles with theyr oun money (if they have some), or send them some if needet. I usualy play a game like this on a 64x2048 map, so the AI will capture some cities or connect some facturies.
Sometimes a AI competitor will survive with some busses in a city, or by conecting facturies. This competitors will then last till end of game.
If an AI competitor try to build a conection with planes, I let it bleed out by its oun stupidity, because they dont build airports in an aera that will recieve any passanger or mail.
I play this kind of game, when I have to work on my network computer and only have little time in pauses to play on my game computer.

DaleStan & sc79: I want to have the AI competitors on, and I don't mind competing for resources/industries. It's just annoying when, using their stupidity, build like they did (in the screenshot) and plain get in the way.

DudeWheresMyTank: I didn't even know you could buy land, how do you do it and is there a way to not show the signs?

Dave Worley: What's wrong with using AsiaStar? It's faster, therefore, more profitable. Like you said though, I suppose buying the company out is an option.

Your language seems pretty English - so let me give you a comparison...

Would you use a Virgin Pendolino or your average D/EMU to power your freight services?

*** Dave Worley neither.

After doing some googling to find out what you're on about, I've come to the conclusion that the Pendolino is too shiny to use for freight :p

I get your point though, but TTD is a game, and in the game, the faster you get freight from one station to the other, the more profit you a make. Therefore, choosing the AsiaStar (the fastest train available in my game atm [except maybe monorail]) is the best choice IMO.

Dave Worley obviously plays for realism only. I play mostly to set up frieght networks. I find passenger networks boring. as you see my screenshot i have chimeras pulling all my frieght. Dave Worley would roll in his grave if he saw that (and was dead)

You may laugh, but in 30 years time when I'm supreme controller of all things Network Rail (if it still exists), and on a salary well in excess of £400,000 a year (plus inflation), I will be the one laughing.

But yes - Dave Worley plays for realism only - but it usually makes him money anyway.

I see this as an additional challenge in the game.

If a AI company is in the way, I just buy them up... like how big companies do in the real world. :P
