If you've got version 5.0, (or even 2.6), can you please post it? The devs are doing an excellent job of keeping us all under the impression that the current version is 0.5.0, and that even 1.0 is two or three years in the future.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

Improved yes, but far away from a good ai, imo. And that only road vehicles work is another disadvantage to a good ai.Captain Kirk wrote:I believe the Road Vehicle part is improved, not sure of other asepcts.
Rfalke said he cares about making it better then it is currently. See http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?t=29643. But unfortunately he has not posted a diff file to test it for bugs or give other improvements.
Actually depends on which AI you talk about. The orginal AI have actually gotten dumber compared to the orginal TTD for some reason, due to some bugs it keeps getting. There's a new AI as well that is much better but for some reason stops working after a few years.Captain Kirk wrote:OpenTTD 0.5.0 RC3 AI is slightly improved from original TTD, i am not aware how much it has progressed through versions though.

The road vehicle AI has been improved for quite some time now (read ~ 1 year) or since or around 0.4.0.x.
Not much happening there... I'm sure even if there had been any patch it wouldn't be included anyways - I think there was one for trains but really long ago...

NewGRF: Oil Wells in Temperate terrain now can Increase production, Better vehicle names, Use-able default aircraft, Oil Rig for Snowland and Desert, Speed for Suspension bridges.
Patches (OpenTTD): Improved smooth_economy [in trunk], More (diesel) smoke [in trunk], Realistic_acceleration finetune.
Keep 'em rollin'!

I agree. I never play against the AI, since it is just too dumb, and I understand that creating a smart AI is a hard problem. If I would want to play against a competotor, I would play against a real human in multiplayer mode. Remember, no AI is even close to a human being when it comes to intelligence.accipiter2000 wrote:i dont care about AI, since it is too weak and hard to improve.
and it is noisy to see rubbish contruction everywhere.

The AI is a quintessential part of TTD though.init wrote:I agree. I never play against the AI, since it is just too dumb, and I understand that creating a smart AI is a hard problem. And actually, I like playing with the AI, in both TTDP and OTTD. It makes for an interesting game.

Fair point but which other game's AI would be so bad that it's actually funny?init wrote:I don't agree, but that may be because I always turn it off the first thing I do after I build a new version of OpenTTD. The original TTD was so laughably funny.
