TTDpatch to OpenTTD > turn off planes crashing?

Post by dollar80 »

I've used TTDpatch for a while, and found out about OpenTTD today - seems great but all my "old" savegames (where I've used the 16.000 day service intervall and "jets never crash") now have all my planes crashing.

Is there no "jets never crash", or similar function here. I've been messing around all day with this, even thou I should work on my thesis ;)

Best regards,

There's a cheat to prevent jets crashing frequently on small airports.

Setting both disaters and vehicle breakdowns to thier respective 'off' settings can lessen planes crashing. They will only crash occasionally instead of often.

Stopping all crashes is, sadly, not possible. You can ensure that trains don't crash by being careful when editing your railway lines. You can ensure that road vehicles don't crash by making sure that railway 'crossings' have either a bridge over or a tunnel under instead of the road across the railway. Ships don't crash with the settings mentioned at the top of this post. Planes, however, will crash occasionally whether you wish them to or not.

That's a shame, I've tried those things but when all my ~200 planes are "old" (game is in year 2161 or something) and dropping out of the skies I don't think OpenTTD is it for that savegame. To boring to replace everything ;)

Yeah, clicking a few buttons (at most 6) is boring:
The wrench in the toolbar -> Configure Patches -> Vehicles -> Enable Autorenew vehicle when it gets old.

Et, voila, your old vehicles will automatically be replaced by a new vehicle of the same model when they enter the depot.

And when you want to upgrade your vehicles (not likely in this situation though). Click on the vehicle type in the main bar -> Manage List -> Replace vehicles. Then select the to be replaced vehicle in the left with the replacement in the right and click on Start Replacing Vehicles. Now your vehicle will be upgrade to the newer model when the vehicle enters the depot.

Planes also require almost zero effort to set up and maintain an (often excessively) profitable network. Personally I consider the crashes a good balancing factor.

I'll clarify what I said a little better. Trains, road vehicles, and ships using the previously mentioned settings and worked with properly will not crash. Planes will crash no matter how your settings are configured.

There is no balancing to 'no crashes', you either have crashes occuring or you don't. The issue is that planes will crash, no setting or gameplay method will change that fact. All other tranports can be set to not crash or you can build around 'trouble spots' to ensure that nothing crashes.

Ships can be profittable as well. They don't require much maintenance...
