Still don't know howto

Post by Post »

start a new game.

Played TTD along time ago (but then I used 1 line for 1 train :) ).
But now I am more learning from the signal stuff (and that's working), however if I see some of you have those nice "main" lines. How do you start with such a main line.

Because I start everytime building railroads from coal to powerstation and adding more and more tracks / stations to it. However I get a (working :P) "mess" of railroad but what I see here is that most are well organized.

Also when connecting station, what's the best way to connect a big station, so that I don't get a qeue in front of the station.

Learned A LOT of this site when searching, but couldn't get above questions answered :)

Have a read in this. That should explain a lot about using signals in combination with stations.

Thanks, that for a start for me :)

But still my question stay how do you start the game by using a "main" line where I read about in those posts here

it's hard to use big "main" lines at the start of a game as they cost a lot of money and when you can;t afford lots of trains to run on them they aren't worth the investment.

my lines generally start as forest-sawmill, or iron mine-steel mill-factory then get extended into a town at one end, and if there's another town near the line i'll spin a juntion off it into the other town and then start passenger services. often this means that the line will have to run though a station in use, which means building a bypass when the momney's available.
here's a pic of one of my games
you can see the original factorty on the right, and that was being fed by steel coming in from the 2-track line you can see some way above it. the line was then extended to batminster and shortly after that the "trumpet" junction was built to allow passenger services to exford. eventually the line north to the steel mill was branched off to another large town which called for the building of the bypass for the factory station.

Thanks for the help.
Looking nice RFT

I made also some screenshots.

The first one runs fine, but I want to know it it can be build better (also the layout does not have main lines, only lines walking thru eachother (or over / under) ;)

Second one was just a test on the incoming track layout. But still please some advise needed :)

From your screenshots I see that you first put a number of lines to three and at the station (Lager Maaswater) split it up in six. Split those three incoming lines at the corner (the second white finger) directly up in six entering lines (more room for trains). The need to go with three lines and at the last moment splitting in six lines gives you a possible bottleneck.

Instead of expensive mainlines you can give a "non stop" order to a train at a station to give it a pass through without stopping. This doesn't avoid possible traffic jams it's only a way to use your current network the best way it can.
Keep life simple...
