replace all track/depots with monrail or maglev

Post by jpmunroe2006 »

I have got a Openttd game with lots of regular track, trains and depots. I'm looking for the easiest way to upgrade all track, depots and trains to be monorail and maglev eventually.
I would prefer that the method of doing this costs in game money and is not a cheat or hack if possible.

Thanks,

James

Hi,
Have you seen the convert Button in the Railroad consrtuction Set?
Have a look at the Manual in the wiki pages.

Hope that helps.

thanks that has explained it, especially the method for retaining the train orders.

This doesnt seem to work so hot if you have multiple trains in the same depot. You cant convert the depot since there are trains in it, and if you sell more than 1 at any time you lose the orders. (and remembering the carriage type/order list of every one of my 350+ trains is not going to happen)

Suggestions?

It would be helpful if the "replace vehicles" button could go between different rail types and/or allow converting the depot type with trains still inside (they obviously should not be allowed to leave on the wrong track type however)

if you have enough money :D

build a second depot - maglev one...

clone every single train... 1 by 1 :)

In the MiniIN version I use, the auto-upgrade function can change between train types, so you can upgrade the train type and wagons, they will then wait in the depot until you upgrade that as well.

Had a hard time getting this to work the first time. Set the rail locos to upgrade to monorail locos but for some reason they just wouldnt convert when they entered the depot. Finally i discovered that you MUST also set the rail cars to convert to the new type of cars. Rail coal cars -> monorail coal cars etc. Once all your trains are stuck in the depots, drag the conversion tool acrtoss the entire map and click "Start All" in the trains list. The hardest part about it was waiting for all the trains to service since the "depot all" button tends to break trains in the miniIN

Yes, this is something that hit me, after changing type, the start trains button on the train list did not work, I had to visit each depot and use the button there.

I also ran into a problem with the trains not being able to start. They were all upgraded to monorail as they should have been. I then converted ALL track on the map to monorail but when I went to start the trains, it gave me a message "Track lacks canternary. Train cannot start". I eventually had to turn on the cheat to allow electric vehicles to run on normal rails to get my network up and running again....

You're all rubbish for using Monorail and Maglev anyway.

Realism is the way forward boys - a massive maglev system is not realism!

maglev exist, it's a real technology, yes, a costly one, but still...

there was a discovery production - a railway going from NY to Europe, undersea ;) in no air system, the train could go to any speed, in this case it would be 8000 kmph. it's not that unrealistic..

I like the engineering challenge of building a railway which is efficient at all speeds, realistic or not.

And what do you think people would say back in 1860 if you started to talk about electric trains? :D
