Stations on Diagonals

Post by Ramshill »

If this has been rejected or suggested before then I am sorry.

Is it possible to build stations on diagonal track?

Just wan't to know if it is impossible in TTD or not (at moment or at all  )
I maybe old but at least I'm not dead (yet).

AFAIK this is up there with diagonal bridges and tunnels as "most unpossible", if you'll excuse the vernacular.

I Understand That If I Wan't It I Would Have To Re-write TTD

Oh Well Its Not That Important Anyway

Other than pathfinding and load time calculation going totally nuts It wouldn't be that hard*. But pathfinding and load time calc a serious problems, which makes it not impossible but very hard to do so it's not on an active todo list.

* It's relative consindered other stuff I did in the past.

It would be interesting to see, though.

Could you not use irregular stations to achive this effect (at least short term)? I.E.:

Code: Select all

That won't work. You forget the trains will still need to enter the station tiles vertically or horizontally. It'd look more like this:

Code: Select all

xx
\\

  \\
   xx
And that's just silly, a waste of space, and unrealistic to boot. :)

Thanks for the interest shown

I just wanted to fit a 3 platform station in where it just aint possible!
So .... I cheated and blew up the bank  (always wanted to do that)
of course I had to rebuild it elseware but thats life and it only took me 10 years to recoup the loss.
I just LOVE this game :D

I meant to use irregular stations to create diagonal stations by putting diagonal tracks in the station. Not by breaking up the station which does not work since the trains stop at the first edge it encounters.
