Request for a patch - vertical take off/landing

Post by gkirilov »

Can someone make a patch for vertical take off and landing of the planes. I was always a fan of such planes (military) but why not also passenger planes. I saw a screenie from the Integrated Nightly and i thought of that. It would also speed up the things in the crouded airports.

So .. anyone interested?

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car. Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far you take the wall with you. Spoilers and bodykits are how much of the wall you take with you. Rollcages and windownets are how much of a mess you leave on the wall.

Maybe something for airplanes in far future.

Helicopters do that and zeppelind but all normal airplanes in the world for this moment and new planes planned in near future needs runeways.
That is realistic.

But for futuristic vehicles in far future maybe it's a good idea

The TTDPatch version of the Planeset has the Bell V-22 Osprey; does that what you want? (You may have to ignore the rotors; last I checked, they didn't display correctly, but it should work.)
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

I want all planes(not only one) to be able to land and take off vertically. Doesn't matter where on the airport. That's all.
If that's not too difficult to do someone could implement it.

If I understand correctly, it's pretty simple to do. Just recode all the airplanes as choppers:
0*0 00 03 01 29 09, followed by enough "00"s to make NFORenum happy.
Add a sprite 0 and an action 8, and you'll be all done.

Making it look good[0] is a different matter.

[0] If you have the ability to run TTDPatch, start it, build an Osprey (Available 2005-2045 or so), and watch it fly around. I don't want to think about how many hours Aydan put into those graphics.

it's a millitary ability and only a very few planes are able to do so. Passenger planes normally don't even have the engine power to do so (they need the wind over the wings to fly) and by design you have to place the jet engines inside the plane instead of on the wings, which I guess would be really noisy for passenger planes and it would take away the cargo space

This will not happen

Did i mention that i want this just for FUN. It just looks cool.
I know it's not realistic and so on. This is just not important for me - the pleasure of seeing aircrafts taking off upppp is enough :).

Just code your airplane and make it of type helicopter as Dalestan said. There is no special code needed for it.

its good idea, but in the future plains i guess. it adds realism. Over planet is overgrowded and in the furure this can save lots of space, when we dont need runways any more!

Yes and No. If memory serves I believe VTOL's require more fuel than regular HTOLs (for the taking off bit). The reason VTOL's are using by the military is that they skip the need for runways which arn't always where they are needed.
Civilian aviation always has the runways it needs (skipping issues about expanind airports ;) ), so you can use less fuel by using a runways instead. Thus more ecologically sound.

actually, Harriers (VTOL) don't take off vertically, they're too heavily loaded for that. They use a shortened runway. It's possible for them to take off truely vertically, but then they can't take any weapons or other payload with them.

But there are other ways of propulsion than just using jets, so who can claim it's not going to be possible in the future?

They can take some - that's why Harrier hides aren't useless.
