Alpha 62f - road vehicles drive past depot

Post by JohalaReewi »

Trying out Alpha 62 fixed and have noticed some strange behaviour with road vehicles. They will decide to go to a depot for a service then when they get to the depot, they drive straight past instead of going in. They then have to back track to get to the depot. When they finally get back, they drive past again!! Have done savegame. Look for road vehicle 9 (truck). It is on the way to load grain at sendington. As it goes through the dip, it decides it needs the depot it has just passed so it finds its way back to the depot then just as it approaches, it decides it doesn't want the depot anymore and drives past it then on its way back past the depot (after turning round) it decides it needs the depot again.

Also check out RV 15 (bus) which is doing the same thing.

I don't know what's the problem, but it happened to me too when I played your game. the problem solved by order the vehicle to go to the depot.

Things like this happended to me often even in older patch versions - vehicle wanted to go to depot, but when near, it decided otherwise and ran away - to return to depot after completing a circle around nearby block. I usually said to myself something like "Uh, stupid AI." and built another depot nearby. The vehicle usually changed its behaviour then.

But that only fixes it the one time. The vehicle can do it again later and so can other vehicles. I had 6 vehicles all doing it at the same time :( :(

Just use Goto Depot.

Indeed, just use the goto depot command.

I remember road vehicles pulling that trick in vanilla TTD.

Or change the position of the depot.

Normally I would use go to depot but i am testing out the alpha release which didn't like all of my TTDpatch switches so I turned them all off (except the XP one) and just did a vanilla TTD (what a shock - you suddenly realise how you miss all the nice TTDpatch features). I started adding switches back in one by one. When I saw this problem, the go to depot switch was still off but I have now switched it on (and alpha 62 is still working :) ). Thanks for your information.

I had the same problem with unpatched TTD. I had a city block with a depot. It was time for the vehicle to have service, so it went to the depot. Then just before it reached the depot it would somehow decide it would not go to the depot after all and drove past it. Then it would decide that it wanted to go to the depot after all, driving around the block. But when it was almost at the depot it would decide not to go there, and so on for all infinity until I decided to force the vehicle to go to the depot or move the depot.

I'm saying this because I think that this bug might be a leftover from unpatched TTD.

It is a leftover from unpatched TTD, but the Goto Depot thingy resolves that, aswell as a few other problems. :)
