questions about animation and new ship graphics

i have namely 2 questions:
1) why isn't the sea animated, like in the non-patched version?
2) i haven't quite understood yet, how to enable new ships...i unzip the files under newgrf subdirectory and put it in the directory of the game, i modify the configuration file (newships on), but nothing happens...
what's the problem?

The sea should be animated. Do you have animations on at game options?
Well the new ships don't start immedeately, so if you started a new game then they still have to come maybe?
And if you want it in an existing game maybe that's not possible?

if you mean all animations on within the game itself (on the toolbar), then yes, all is on...maybe it needs to be turned or something, in some file?

Sometimes sign cheat "reload engines" and "allengines" help. The water is animated, controled by game itself, not the patch. Read the patch's manual.

Are you playing in windowed mode? If so, switch to full-screen mode (use Compatibility Mode if necessary) and the water should be animated.

i was wondering if it was because of the window mode...well i'll try the fullscreen then. oh, and if the new ships appear only by starting the new game, then i suppose i should try it. it didn't work with a savegame anyway...

If you use the two cheats mentioned above, the ships will be even in saved game.
