Most efficient railway exits?

Post by Ohnoes »

I can make some pretty decent entrances with the no trains stopping at all but exits seem to get jammed up when the traffic really starts to get dense.
Here is what I use now - you can see its got good enough at all.

I hear people manage over 100 trains into a single station but this is only about 50-60 of them. Trying to funnel them onto a single line with this setup doesnt work well enough...any ideas?

Try to have longer exits. The more space available, the quicker trains can get out, the more trains can come in...

Another thing, use PBS.
In this example, trains are able to redirect their path after first decision of which platform to go is made, at the bottom of ther screenshot
Watch those two trains at the bottom. Aren't they close enough? That's the magic of PBS

first of all, welcome! :D
second you need to download nightly build

and switch it with your correctly files.
Then you will be able to place PBS with Ctrl key.

@ kkl :
Note that you need to enable NPF to make PBS working correctly.

@anyone :

When I see you screenshot, I see You manage rail station to have 18 train but only 5 tiles long..
why don't you try to have longuer train ?
myself, (I don't know if it's a good idea) for some case, I use to have train with 18 wagons and I manage only 5 or 6 trains.
That makes my traffic lighter, and my railstation has only 4 or 5 tracks but with 8 or 9 tiles long...

what is the best ?
I see so much people who are using 15 small tracks for railstation... there should be a reason... what's your feeling about that ?
thank you

 Fabeca2, sometimes you can't use mamoth trains.

 Kkl,
Change your enterance signals to 2-ways signals,
If it doesn't solve the problem it might be a Bug.

This stations currently serves 98 trains which have between 10 and 12 wagons. It is used mainly as a transfer station, but there are a couple of industries. Leading off to the north there are two lanes going in each direction, then 8 tunnels (4 in each direction), then another two lanes going in each direction until we get to a major junction (that is for another topic though).

In my experience you can never copy what someone else has, unless you have exactly the same network as they have. Every junction, every station, every piece of track will need to be different depending on your needs.

This is my mainstation.
The exits are made to prevent trains having to wait oneachother.
I have no idea how many trains visit it (I have more then 500 trains).
All my lifestock and fish comes here, most of my grain does as does about half of my steel.
Also quite a lot of trains try to move out the produced goods and food, but fail to do so.
I would need a few more tracks, but TTDP doesn't allow more then 15.
I guess in total some 200 trains come here.
