"Could not start the Server"

Post by Kellione »

i had this problem after a fresh install of the latest 0.4.0.1 download on the website. "Could not start the Server" pops out after i click on start server. This however is on school computers with windows 95 and school network. But everything works fine with no problem at all on my home computers with Windows XP.

I suspect your school probably has something blocking you from starting game servers on them. If you ask your IT technician nicely he might be able to sort something out for you.

Who is controlling the network and annoys you with stupid blocks of downloads (I can't download normal wmv or mov files in school because of him ^^)

Quite possible the game is trying to open a network port that's already in use. Ive had this problem a couple times while developing network applications and forgetting to shut down the previous test I was running :)

A nifty tool comes with windows and its called netstat. Open a dos box and type netstat -a -n and see which ports are in use (Those with LISTENING as status).

I've seen the following ports being opened by OTTD :

TCP 3979
UDP 2210, 2211 and 3979
Siggy not gonna work unless someone allows javascripting...
